Hi guys,

I just have installed Dungeon Siege 1 on GOG and downloaded U6 project to install, ran the "setup" application and it says Dungeon Siege 1 must be installed to play this game. So I can't install it yet I have installed DS1. I have also installed this game on my external hard drive if that makes any difference and DS1 is listed as being installed in Windows programs in control panel. Can anyone suggest why U6 project can't find this installation? Help would be appreciated.

Many thanks
David.

How did you manage to install it on GOG? Do you mean galaxy? If so, I would avoid the client if you want to mod. Grab the offline installer, install it to a non program files folder, eg. C:/mygames, then run the mod installer. If that works then you know it’s the external hdd, I never install anything to external drives personally.
Also note, the GOG version does not include the expansion, never used U6 project so don’t know if it requires this, but that could be another thing.

It doesn't.
You have to manually edit Windows registry in order to make Ultima mods for DS to work.

https://ultimacodex.com/2016/05/how-to-install-ultima-v-lazarusthe-ultima-6-project-for-steam-versions-of-dungeon-siege/

The instructions copied from the link:

start “Regedit”
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft
Add a key for “Microsoft Games” under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\ (no quotes)
Add a key for “DungeonSiege” under the now existent “Microsoft Games” key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\)
Add a key for “1.0” under the now existent “DungeonSiege” key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\DungeonSiege)
In the now existent HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\DungeonSiege\1.0 key, right-click on the right-hand pane and choose “New –> String Value” and name it “EXE Path” (no quotes)
Double-click the “EXE Path” string entry and change its Value data to the path you determined before we began editing the registry. In my case, I change it to: E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Dungeon Siege 1
Click OK.
Close Regedit.

Lazarus worked fine for me without doing that.

The problem is more with the Ultima 6 mod. Its installation doesn't modify the registry, so it has to be done manually.
So I bought the Dungeon Siege collection here when it was on sale earlier this year figuring it would be easier to run Ultima Lazarus & Archon on them than on Steam. I'm quite confused though - do I still need Killah's fix or should they run as-is? I don't really fancy starting the playthrough only to then be confronted by random crashes or the like. Thanks!

The so called Killah's Fix adds the expansion to the base game and if I am not mistaken Lazarus Mod is only functional with the base game.
Oh, I see! I got it all lopsided then, it seems. So there is no substantial difference between the GoG and Steam versions? Oh well, guess I wasted a few quid.

The GOG Version runs under a wrapper to make it more compatible under Windows 10. The Steam Version not.
