Hey guys,

I use GOG at a web cafe, so I need to re-install games every time I play.

For larger games, the download time is pretty slow, so I've put all the backup installers on a flash drive, which installs them a lot more quickly. Then I download the galaxy client, log in and import the files I've just installed locally. This seems to work fine, except I don't know how to save between sessions.

The problem is that I can't find my saves for any game. This seems to be the case even if I forget the flash drive and install the games directly through the galaxy client. I'm fairly new to GOG so I'm not sure how most games are saved in the first place. If it's locally, where are the save files so can move them onto my flash drive before Ieaving the cafe? If it's all saved to the cloud, how do I sync them back to my game?

Savegames can be stored in several different locations. Most likely you will find them in .\Users\{username}\AppData\Local, x:\Users\{username}\AppData\LocalLow\ or .\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming Sometimes they are stored in a sub-folder the game has been installed and finally .\Users\{username}\Documents\My Games\

Since AppData is a hidden folder and in the assumption that you can't change settings on an internet café PC, open an explorer window, copy %LOCALAPPDATA% into the address bar, and you should get access to it. You can find a list of the others here

If you use Galaxy to play games, chances are the saves are synced in the cloud and then Galaxy will automatically download them every time you play. To find out if a game has cloud saves, check that it has the corresponding tag on the product page.

In any case, it's a good idea to copy your saves to your flash drive, but as Mori_Yuki wrote, they can be in a myriad of different places depending on the game.

This site keeps track of the location of saves for most games in existence: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Home

If even there you can't find the information you're looking for about a specific game, the best option is to ask on the forums.

This migh be interesting for the OP and anyone playing on different machines: taking full advantage of cloud saves, while installing the games from the standalone installers. Interesting!
Thanks for the advice everyone. Looks like most saves are synced to the cloud. I'm still hunting around for the local files but Mori_Yuki's advice is a great place to start. This is also my first time hearing about pcgaming wiki. That's super helpful for figuring out which games save where.

It's been a fun challenge, making this setup work. As Carradice remarked it is interesting being able to fire up a game on any PC with just a thumb drive and wifi connection. Sometimes for my job I need to kill a few hours in a random part of the city. it's nice to drop in to a web cafe, order a drink and play for a while without hassle.
