Happy news for Linux users, the well received Vaporum just got released for Linux today and it's also available on GOG.
I'm a sucker for claustrophobic RPG's so this one will make a fine addition to my library ;)
Mini Review:
Just gave the game a whirl, graphics are quite impressive and it runs well. Resource-Wise it doesn't take too much system ram, barely 2GB in half an hour testing, GPU ram usage was about to exceed the 2GB mark with the settings almost all on the highest setting. The game has a built-in FPS counter (by pressing F3), with V-Sync off this was reporting about 85 FPS, also should you wish to keep V-Sync off it also comes with a built in FPS limiter with 4 settings - 30,60, 90 and 120. I didn't encounter any graphical errors during my short test.
Setting and Story Wise (No Spoilers):
The game is set in a steampunk setting and it heavily reminds me of Bioshock right from the beginning, the story opens with the main character washing up on rocks with a large tower nearby. Those familiar with the first Bioshock game may already picture how it begins. There are no parties in this game, you're only one man. I also encountered my first combat sequence in the game and the AI is a bit more intelligent than the one in Grimrock.
What I didn't like is that save games are kept in the installation folder (they are found in "Installation_Folder/game/Saves") as opposed to your .local or .config Linux home folder. It's nothing serious but something to watch out for when updating the game on Linux.
Overall it's worth the asking price, combining a Steampunk setting with grid based movement brings a fresh coat of paint to this genre.
