25-85% off SPAZ, Dead State, Rebuild 3, and Zombie Shooter.

Zombies. Can't live with them, can't get away from them. It wasn't too long ago that gaming's Zombie Renaissance peaked and unleashed upon us an army of a thousand mindless, drooling, unrelenting zombie-gaming experiences. Today, we're picking out the cream of the crop: GOG.com releases filled to the brim with zombies, each with a unique take on the smash-hit-brain-eat antiheroes - each with discounts from 25-85% off it's Weekly Staff Picks: Braaaains!

What's the first thing you think of when you think zombie things? Oh, did you say chaos, bullets, and destruction? Zombie Shooter 1 & 2 are a pair of simple and brutal zombie killing simulators: isometric, trigger-happy, massive levels, mayhem. The premise is really as simple as a zombie's thought process - get out there, make a fine mess, probably get blown up somewhere along the way. It's quintessential zombie action, twice.

Chaos and destruction are cool and all, but what if you prefer a slower, more tactical approach? Shoot for Dead State, a tactical zombie survival RPG with turn-based combat, and a non-linear story with plenty of upgrades and unlocks - as well as elements of base-building. Do you have the brains and the brawn to survive the apocalypse?

Short on the brawn? Rebuild 3: Gangs of Deadsville is all about the braaaains. It's a post-zombie-apocalypse city-building sim that came a long, looong way from it's already immensely popular, hyper-addictive, browser-based origins. It's a massive management game in which you're in charge of building a settlement of survivors in a world barely recovering from the zombie apocalypse. It's SimCity meets Walking Dead - with 200,000 words of lore and quests to soak up at your own pace.

What if Zombies had made it into space? It's a reasonable thing to consider. That question (and many others) are answered in the spectacular tactical RPG-space-shooter Space Pirates and Zombies - same as the action-based space shooters of old, but different thanks to full physics simulation, but still same. One of the coolest twists here is that instead of piloting a single ship, you're in charge of an entire fleet - evergrowing, everevolving. A huge procedurally generated galaxy stands wide open... for the Zombie Spacepocalpyse!

Live out a thousand and one zombie nights with <span class="bold">Weekly Staff Picks: Braaaains!</span>, as selection of five unique Zombie games, all DRM-free, terrific and up to 85% off! The promo will last until September 3, 9:59 AM GMT.

Licurg: So the game doesn't crash all the time ? What about repetitiveness ? And combat ? Reading the very first review from the game page, it doesn't exactly sound like a masterpiece .

CharlesGrey: I don't remember if the game crashed for me at all, definitely not "all the time". Of course those things can be hardware and OS dependent. The combat was pretty basic, when compared to other tactical RPGs, but apparently they have since introduced a few new features.

And I definitely wouldn't call it a "masterpiece", but it's none the less enjoyable if you like the setting and this type of gameplay. If that helps, I'd rate the original version around 70/100, with the new features and tweaks it's probably more of a 80/100. I bought it when it was 50 or 60% off and don't regret it, so the current price seems good.
Ok, I bought it.

I hope you'll have fun with it. I only played the older version, but still spent some 20-30 hours or so on it. I should download the improved version some time and give it another try.

tfishell: Couldn't get Telltale to put the Walking Dead games on sale? :P
Hah, now that you mention it...

I wonder why. I seem to remember they were already on sale back when they were added to GOG. Something like 50 or 60% off?

Impaler26: Jeez, while checking out the promo i saw that i own Zombie Shooter 2.
I also own it on Steam so i wonder why i bought this crap twice... o.O

And NO, even at only 0,79€ i won't buy the first ZS (which i have on Steam already). :P

Licurg: It's not a piece of crap...
Haha, I like the Shooter games too. Alien Shooter 2 is my favorite, and I'd like Zombie Shooter 2 almost as much, except it lacks some polish. It's too easy to get stuck on objects in the environment, and I don't think it's possible to get 100% kills in all the missions. There's 7 zombies missing in the first mission that I've never found, and I've replayed that mission nearly a dozen times, it's always the same number missing. =\
I think zombie plan and briaaaannn" ;)
picked up DeadsVille.

wanna try Dead State since I'm a sucker for squad turn based battle (Xcom, Xenonauts, Silent Storm, Shadowrun) but the highest rated review always keep me from buying it *sigh*

EDIT: whoa someone already addressed my dilemma. maybe I'll try to consider it again :)

I wanted to play the Rebuild series, but wasn't happy with the $15 price tag when I could buy the 2nd one for $3 on my phone. I liked the more realistic graphics and winter on the phone version. Not sure if the 3rd one is worth it for that price tag (not that I didn't enjoy it, because I did really like the game on my phone, I'm just cheap and $15 for anything scares me off).

No one seems to notice that the "most helpful" review was written nearly 10 months ago, and before the game updated to its Reanimated Edition.

A while ago, GOG used to allow you to sort reviews by most recent, as well as most helpful. That feature seems to have gone away. :-( A shame, because it was very useful for games that launched buggy to see if they'd improved (or not) with updates.
Dead State was, unfortunately, released a bit earlier than it should have been, and the reputation it got from that has followed it around ever since. Its not a game without it warts (as noted the net of roleplaying text is incredibly complex, that being Brian's big gig, and that means there are occasional spit ups that have never been solved) and the choice of engine limited the game more than it needed to be.

That said there's really nothing else like it on the market, so if you like turn-based rpgs and want a zombie game, its more than worthwhile at the price.

I'm curious as to whether they ever got Rebuild 3 up to having all the features of the Steam version, but given what time it is I'm unlikely to find out before the sale expires.
