Wherever there is big money there are parasites. WHO isn't different than any other institution.
The question is, when we can expect a brand new tax for games?

PoppyAppletree: You know what actually kills? Polio. And measles. And all these other things that we vaccinate for because we know how deadly they are. My uncle got polio as a young man, and he walks on crutches at all times. My grandmother died from measles.
I'm sorry to hear your relatives weren't vaccinated.

PoppyAppletree: A very minute proportion of people having negative reactions to vaccines is a small price to pay for a world where people aren't maimed or killed by these diseases.
That is a very interesting point of view..

timppu: Naturally WHO didn't make any such claim, that was just an invention by the stupid journalist writing the article.
haha, classic
WHO
Also this, which seems very much in line with the skeptical perspective on that subject in cultural anthropology.

The starting exemple of the article is a bit out of place (being reluctantly interrupted middle in a game is not the same thing as being addicted to starting new games), but as it's not illustrative of the point made it doesn't matter much.
Out of curiosity, are internet, social media and porn addiction officially accepted as individual diseases / disorders then as well? Because I'd expect those to be a lot more common than gaming addiction.

Internet (and social media is probably within that) is being studied as such:

Porn is considered within general sexual addiction but it's not officially one either:

Makes sense. Interesting though that both are not actually considered as "addiction" but "compulsive behaviors or impulse control disorders" (according to Wikipedia).
Had a friend who said he spent 2 years going nuts on everquest. Said he'd lose a lot of sleep and would eat in front of his computer to see that continuous improvement.

Heard some people had problems with gambling additions. Ended up having loan sharks chase their family members and beat them up or harass them at work. Surely gaming ain't that bad.

That's great! But my Who-Doctor will always be David Tennant!
