Groundbreaking. Not many have done as many classics as he and it's a rare thing to revitalise a whole genre. More than once even. Love them too.

For me he is. :)
I'm not big on horror movies (with some notable exceptions) so I won't claim to be a big fan of Craven. I will admit this however, as a comic book fan- I actually liked his Swamp Thing movie. It was made before Alan Moore reshaped the nature and quality of the comic series, so one can't take issue with it not being on that level of writing, and for what it was it was a fun story of bizzare science and monsters, a very enjoyable B movie.
