You should check out Undertale, It's pretty unique both how it plays and how it does story.
Based on the text of your post, it sounds like you're more interested in a game with a set of choices and consequences rather than a non-linear game. Morrowind, for example, is wonderfully non-linear but your ability to affect the world around you with your decisions is quite limited. Planescape Torment, on the other hand, is incredibly linear but has wonderful decision-making, though still nowhere close to Fallout.

So what exactly is it you're looking for?
@drealmer7

I haven't even tried to "reply" via my iPad this time because doing so on an iPad (or at least mine) is precarious ! Apologies again if I did downvote you and thanks for being such a good sport !

I'm not sure which other games I could come up with in the so-called "non-linear" category. I suppose Grand Theft Auto is non-linear too, but I think the term needs defining a bit more closely. Something like Dragon Age (the first one) is, in my opinion, utterly linear. Some games don't allow you to play them, they force you to watch them play themselves.

The Infinity Engine games are my favourites of all time, but I must admit that, compared with the likes of Skyrim, they are linear.

But, as I say, even Skyrim et al. cannot escape linearity. There is no such thing as a totally non-linear game. # Thread derailed.

You're right. It's the choices that count. I recently played some text-based adventures and they were great because it really mattered what you did.
Gothic 1+2
Fallout 1-3
Inquisitor
Planescape: Torment

and of course:
Blade Runner

GTAs mentioned above do have freedom, true, but are pseudo-linear. You cannot choose different paths to progress the story, unless it is 2 that we are talking about (GTA 2), in which you choose which gang you are going to work for... And as far as i know, every GTA game, has only one ending, each. I would say GTAs are not the type of game OP wanted.

I would double the Vampire:Bloodlines, which has to be EXACTLY that. Many different endings, many ways to finish even ONE quest (out of the many), different approach to conversation and combat (even avoiding combat altogether), etc.

Witcher also fits, but 1 more that the others, since it has neutral ending, many more choices reflected during the epilogue act and unlike 2 and 3, it doesn't downplay, or downright CANCEL, your OWN, damn choices. Plus it allows you much more freedom concerning how many types of women you can bed, throughout the game; more even than in 3...

Baldur's Gate is nice, but hard, a hardcore RPG but rewarding and satisfying. Different endings are not that many, actually, but you can ropleplay a good, evil, or neutral party. You have to carry and stomach a party, though.

Klumpen0815: Gothic 1+2
Fallout 1-3
Inquisitor
Planescape: Torment
See this folks!? Inquisitor is in this list!!! As it should be!
More people need to play this rough-amazing-gem of an RPG!!!

It's right up there for me with Fallout 1+2, PS:T, and Arcanum as the greatest RPGs ever (I've not yet gotten to Gothic, but I have a strong feeling that will join my list too.)

Then you should really consider starting a dynasty of Zee Captains on the Sunless Sea.

Yes, Inquisitor is one of the best RPGs I know and I say this although I've played the ill balanced knight character.
If you like those and don't have anything against a little rust und roughness, you will love Gothic, although I don't know how much gets lost in translation since I've only played the German originals and the voice acting was perfect. The dialogues and choice of words is very down-to-earth with swearing, dirty jokes, etc... and I hope that they didn't make "ye olden tongue" out of it in the English version, since it really wouldn't fit the characters and the whole prison colony in the dirty medieval setting.

Klumpen0815: ...
Yeah, I'm really looking forward to sinking my teeth into Gothic 1+2+3 when I get the time (hopefully this winter!!!) Ugh, German is my FAVORITE LANGUAGE, I wish I spoke it better/well enough to play the german version, that would be the ultimate awesome (should I have said "teh" ?) !

Anyone have any input on the English voice-overs in regards to what Klumpen said?
