i live in a rural area, and my computer is placed in such a way that the WI-FI signal is kind of disrupted... Which results in me having to manage with 1 MB/s of download, sometimes less, sometimes rising up to 1,5 MB/s.

I am downloading Cyberpunk 2077 right now and it's on 27% despite the fact i have been downloading it for maaaaaany hours. Thankfully, i am soon going to sleep, so by the time i wake up, the download will likely have passed 50%, maybe even touch 66%.

But i am wondering why video games cannot be downloaded in parts. For now, i would be happy if they just let me create my character and play the prologue. I have been waiting for this game to arrive for 8 months, i could at least have that.

I think the Blizzard launcher has something like that. The game needs a certain amount of data to be functional, the rest can be streamed to your PC.

Also, i think there should be more customizability in what i want to download. For instance, if i am playing on 1080p 16:9 display, i do not really need textures for other resolutions. Or, since i am going to play as a man, i could only download the textures for male V, since that's what i am going for, and i could download the female textures once i have gotten to know the game.

Or CDPR could have just let me and other retail customers preload the game. That would be nice, as well! Not being salty, but i think that as a 1 MB/s user i have the right to feel betrayed in a way

Some games work in this way - for example, Gears of War 5 through the DirectXBox for Windows application - that lets you play the training mission while it's still downloading, and also lets you either prioritise single or multiplayer for the download.

However, you can only do this through an online launcher that has online functionality if you want the granularity for the level you suggest - I mean, you'd gets tonnes of download chunks to provide just the features you want. Bear in mind that at the moment there's another thread on the forum complaining that they have to download the game in 4GB chunks with the offline installer "even though it's 2020 and everyone has great internet access" - I'm paraphrasing slightly, but at the end of the day, CDPR and other developers have probably just gone "you can't please everyone".

In any event, the first week of game launches are typically buggy messes these days, so console yourself that the longer it takes, the more time they have to fix any issues.

I know at least one online game which already has such possibility - you can download some "needed amount of data" to start the game and then the rest is downloaded in the background "on demand" (for example: when you explore the world and need to enter the area with some data you do not have on disk drive).

Downloading some games require me to leave my notebook overnight. Not to mention I ran out of space anyway, considering recent game took at least 100gb nowadays. Last time it was Deus Ex Mankind Divided, weigh in about 70 gb.

But that's okay for me since I don't play videogames as intense as I was, yet I have buttload of games I haven't played at all.

I can see why Cyberpunk was such a hype. But nowadays I'm not into these deep, super immersive videogames anymore. I'm more into quick action, naming Call of Duty mobile. I don't have to boot up anything since my phone is mostly on anyway. And a session is around less than 5 minutes. Perfect for short bursts of distractions.

They do just not here, blizzard does that. If you are sayig you have a higher internet connection jusr run cat 5e or 6 cable. They sell it at home depot for like 200 bucks 1000 feet. Then you just need a end tool to put the connector on which is like 25, and the ends are 8. If you need to run it longer than 100 feet or so amazon sells boosters that go over a mile.I use to run arpund 800 feet through a feild.

You could also get satlite internet which is like 100 a month now foe unlimited, or buy a directional cell phone antenna and use mobile. Befoe they ran fiber to my house in the woods i used verizon, bur they banned me lol cause i used like 500gbs. I had satlite which was unlimited from 9pm to 6am, and 30gbs of verizon. They went to that unlimited thing, and they tried to get me to switch from the 30 gbs. Im like listen i am happy with what i have are ypu sure its unlimted, they said yep you just might get kicked to 3g speeds. Im like fine, and canceled my satalite. After one month they banned both my usb modems, and camceled my hot spot. I called and told them to shove thier phones up thier ass, and didnt pay them haha. I owed them like 6 grand and just went bankrupt rotten bastards.

Many games and services allow for that. I got Jedi Fallen Order on Origin and was able to start playing at 48% downloaded. PS4 also had some games playable before downloading was complete.

Ethernet cable is the tool for downloading large files. You can make a download server from an old laptop or a microcomputer like a Raspberry Pi and use a short cable and place it next to your router. Copying over the files afterwards takes a fraction of the time.

OP - What you want adds lot of complexity etc.

Many want to archive or backup their games, so as fewer files as possible is desired ... they also copy quicker locally to drives.

To truly suit you and some others, GOG would need to keep another set of files that have been broken down from the main installer into maybe as many as hundreds of separate files, if not more ... and provide a link for such versions ... and they seem to have enough trouble dealing with regular downloads ... had to give up on the links for the old GOG Downloader for instance, because it is reputedly too much work etc to provide such.

Many don't have a PC that is good enough to play the game while also downloading ... overheads can be everything sometimes, especially with a very demanding game. Bottlenecks can cause PC slowdown, especially while waiting for responses.

Have a real proper think about what you are asking for some of those other things.
What you are asking for is GOG or Galaxy presenting you with a popup before downloading, that asks you what resolution you will initially be playing at, what sex your main character is, etc, etc. Just not realistic, especially in the context of others games that would be different in all sorts of ways.

It would take a dedicated downloader for each game ... which means a lot more work for them and the DEV etc. And they seem to have enough trouble keeping bugs to a minimum and providing a demo for each game etc.

I would think that a browser plug-in such as DownThemAll or NetAnts, if that is still around, would help in your case. Tools like these do exactly what you need. They break down large files into small chunks, queues them, so downloads should finish faster.

When looking for an internet download manager you should also look to see whether the program or plug-in is capable of downloading all files from a website!

Alternatively, grab a USB stick and go download your game somewhere with a better connection. Or use your phone.
