Few people, I've used to cooperate on GoG with, recently PMed me that they will leave gog when new privacy policy will strike. Its became weird and I've spent some time to read it, but didnt find anything suspicious and damaging - I mean, its usual online store policy, isnt isnt?

Or am I wrong? Somebody plz explain me why people are so upset about it

I'm guessing it has more to do with the way profiles are set up to still display some information even when set to max privacy than the policy itself.

That's a bit ridiculous. Why should anybody need to make a whole new account just to try to have some privacy?
It's not just some sort of forum thing, either. If you set all your profile settings to max privacy, people can still see stuff about you like number of games.

but its something, everybody use nowadays. I mean - steam's privacy policy is even worse (yet you cant get rid of some parts, such as telemetry, since 95% of games require steam client to launch)

You can't play Gwent, and a fair few of the games require galaxy for multiplayer, so galaxy requirement is not far off. It's not quite as bad here, but they are striving really hard to get there.

What nightcrawler said - just because Steam "is worse" doesn't mean GOG should undertake every step besides the teensy last one towards becoming Steam.

Besides, honestly curious question to the Steam users: Can you log into Steam with your facebook account?

old games still work without galaxy and dont even include galaxy parts in their installers. I think, for people, who remember gog being GoodOldGames, it wont happen - GoG is ruined by managers, but they clearly understand that addition of galaxy as requirment will kill their business (coz it will be just another steam with less games) I didnt understand this part quite well, so - probs my post will make no sence. But anyway - personally, I find galaxy worse than steam. Yes, games are still drm-free, all that. But, damn, galaxy.dll is requirment, not optional dependency. For games with galaxy featues, it exist in galaxy-free installers and, what bothers me - send information to gog servers. I have very few such games, so - didnt play with firewall rules yet. But people reporting that blacklisting everything will make such games crash (may be wrong - didnt try by myself. I've only seen that galaxy.dll cant be removed from these games). Which is bs iirc - nope. But you can link your facebook account to steam to share your posts, purchases and screenshots with facebook. Also can (atleast could) link youtube account to automatically post new vidyas into steam feed. Maybe something else

I must admit, especially in light of recent horrific findings against facebook's idea of customer privacy, that this does kind of reopen the question whether GOG is as bad or worse than Steam for me.

well, if they use official facebook's apis for login and nothing else - they shouldnt share your personal info with facebook, if you dont use this feature

fun thing is that GoG introduced their profile system and its settings as alternative to steam profiles with their recent update. While said update was related to privacy, in order to follow new EU law https://steamcommunity.com/games/593110/announcements/detail/1667896941884942467

According to their new Privacy Policy effective April 25, 2018 subsection 10.3 they can totally do that.

And that means they will.

Additionally to what zeogold already said in post #4, even if what you said was a reasonable suggestion, that's a tad late for people that signed up here many years ago, don't you think?

And just a FYI, if you have any friends on either account that have their profile set to public or friends, your data is leaking through them to either everybody or their non-mutual friends as we speak.
