I enjoy GOG and buy a fair few games on here. But I also love having a profile that I can show to others with recently played games and ideally achievements and stuff too, but just game time would do, to be honest.

Are these things on their way? I know it's said they are on Galaxy for a while now but I wondered how close we're getting!

Because right now any games I play on GOG aren't displayed anywhere, whereas when I play a game on Steam, it gets recorded on my profile so that my friends can see what games I've been playing, which I like.

Just wondered!

Thanks guys and keep up the good work - it's a great platform overall!
You already have your answer: the focus is on Galaxy, which will be done "when its done"©®™. Everything else is secondary and low in priority, so if anything is in the works, it will be a long time before we see it and GOG is not going to provide any kind of timeline on that.

Oh, no I didn't know that. All I said was that these features I am mentioning are mentioned on Galaxy as "coming soon". I was not aware that the focus was on Galaxy per se, and even then I'm not entirely sure what that means because Galaxy is quite a broad and comprehensive platform with lots of features that could be given attention.
On the upside, I've noticed the past couple days that I no longer need to log in every time I come to the site from scratch. So hey - that got fixed recently.

Hope I didn't just jinx it....

GOG users ingrained it into them not to make GOG like Steam. "Everything about Steam sucks!" - So now they have to reinvent the wheel to please the old timers with thousands of purchases. Everything needs to be minimal and featureful simultaneously but they have a backlog of suggestions/fixes from years ago that they only get around to implementing today.

So they are in a bit of a pickle, and you are out of luck until some years for now with all of your ideas and wishes for the platform. But you can always learn programming and be free labor for them. They use Ruby I think. So make some original samples and see if you're able to better the site.

As you said Galaxy already has many of what you want, just not the profile feature. I imagine this will come eventually to Galaxy and by extension the GOG site since most of what you see in Galaxy is just the site embedded into Galaxy which is basically a stripped down web browser.

Game time tracking, achievements, etc are already in Galaxy. If you want that then use Galaxy.

If you look at this picture (the one in the bottom left - zoom in), you can clearly see they planned or do plan to have it so you can tell which friends are playing the game your playing and their time/achievement progress. This picture was taken from the Galaxy page.

Also when they did the site revamp not that long ago, they made it so that each user can display their wishlist. The address for this is www.gog.com/u/USERNAME/whishlist. Using /u/ is typical when using profiles as it stands for user. This is a bit of a stretch but it lends to the credibility that eventually profiles might be located at www.gog.com/u/USERNAME.

So I think it will happen, it's just a matter of time.

Very true.

I'm glad these community features are on their way, at least!

GOG does seem to be developing pretty fast so maybe it won't be long :)
I'd give the GOG team a little patience. As has been said, any changes to Galaxy also follow in the GOG website, that's one thing I like about GOG. User profiles should not be far off though, and I'm waiting for it to show up too.

Yes there is a pickle, there are those of us who have never needed or wanted client software or any other "steam" like features to play the games we have been buying, collecting and playing for decades.
There are others, like this post, who feel that Gog should become steam and the client is everything. They wouldn't bat an eyelid if the client became required, and are probably only here to ruin the site for those of who haven't joined the ranks of the steam overlords.
Pick a side, for me the focus should be on getting the forum issues sorted, more games here, maybe emulation, spreading out into avenues that haven't been done to death by other web stores.
I'll agree with nightcraw1er; while Galaxy & other features will be nice to have and potentially they'll bring many more people to GOG, the most important for me is account security.

Then we can talk about having a nice working chat for all of us that use it extensively, have the forum bugs exterminated, solve the scammer problem (although we have also been responsible for it with all the mindless code dropping) etc.

When all these issues will get fixed, I'll be happy to embrace Galaxy as long as this doesn't mean that I should use it to be able to have 100% site functionality. "Optional" is the key word. ;)
