Because, quite simply, they bring out the worst in people.
because like everything else in 2021, you're suppose to think ONE way on the forums and anything else is offensive. Therefor political discussion on this forum is never happening. Been there, done that. Didn't go well. Bans for everyone not left leaning.

Because they bring anger and strife to the forum.
I'm in favour of the politics ban. However, Gog also shouldn't sell games that promote political violence.
So please vote for the removal of "Tonight we riot":

Thank you!

thx, that's great!
Because it turns out to be a slight flaming hornets nest. I also agree conceptually with Moldorf's assessment, on the exception of historic/fictional or principled games not based on current events/circumstances.

It'd be a dear shame to lose Paper Please because of an accidental slip in clause.

As far as I can assay, any game based so directly on dealings of politics in a central mechanic have never been worth the bother anyways.

I can only assume you've not been long enough to grok the old terms such as "Flame War".

But many other things do the same as well, IRL and online, yet we don't ban all of them.

Tbh, if it were up to me i'd not ban the topics but warn/ban the bad eggs who couldn't discuss said topics civilly...just my two cents.

Honestly, most people don't care enough about most other topics to get the kind of vitriol that political and religious topics do. Vitriolic hate is terrible and it's precisely because the issues affect people in a real way in their own way of life, or even threaten their ideal society, that political subjects cause a lot more hate than most anything else. I'm perfectly fine with GOG and virtually any forum I'm a part of banning political events discussions. Most do because there is very little redeemable conversation to come of it. Even discussing it civilly, most people think how they think and believe what they believe and a comment on a message board won't change that.
Because someone's wrongthink could hurt some precious feelings.

nope thats not true
political debates would make people more active and aware , but that would result in customers wanting better treatment and not just mindlessly consume everything corps put in front of them

Because even having an opinion might offend someone's feelings even if the person don't feel anything.
Banning political flame wars in forums?
All for that. Complete waste of passive/aggressive capacities.

Banning political games?
Nope. Freedom of speech, artistic license and all that jazz.

An awful lot of people today seem to have difficulty with the basic concept of relevance, ie, "There's a time and a place for everything". As a result, politics has a tendency to hijack then overrun every non-political board. Motorcycle forum that allows politics = it'll turn into a political board that occasionally talks about motorcycles. Video gaming forum that allows politics = it'll turn into a political board that occasionally talks about video games. There are around 9,000,0000,000 forums on the net where people can rage about politics. Not turning this place into the usual "Fox vs MSNBC" crap-fest is a good idea (the fact I'm not American, haven't ever watched either of these and don't hang round political forums yet still know exactly what it refers to perfectly highlights the over-saturation problem).
