Because it is DRM-free. Obviously.
GOG is GOG.

I love GOG.

GOG loves me.

It's a perfect relationship.

Orkhepaj: unionize ?:O
why should they start hiring outside poland?

Darvond: Unionize to get better employment benefits as to become a better workplace (They're completely pathetic, even to an ex-employee) so people would actually be interested in working, or hire externally so they don't have to deal with how terrible a prospect Poland is for most IT.
HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Unions are the reason why there are no manufacturing jobs in the west anymore, you need to do your research lady/man/person/cat.

I don't, To me It's just another game store that I was foolish enough to join thanks to PCPP wish I'd NEVER picked up that issue with 3 free games only one of your choice I chose kingpin BTW because I couldn't get it in Australia.

What made them special in the past was [one world one price] and could buy uncensored versions of games here and also games that were banned [for no good reason] in your country.

But after they got big they just gave those customers the middle finger!

No; automation, liveable wages, regulation, health & safety and other factors are why most personnel based jobs are being replaced with highly efficient robots/incredibly small scripts.

Why worry about some half-drunk, sleep deprived lorry driver in a stupor pushing 130 kph trying to push you off the road because he was told the cargo needed delivered three days ago when you can just replace so many things with a simple LIDAR array and save big long term?

No need to worry about human insurance, other people are now liable, food & rest are off the books, and you don't have to pay wages to a robot either.

And that's just one small example.

They've really come a long way since their humble rebel beginnings. It's been quite fascinating to watch over the years. I think the list of achievements is nearly complete:

FAIR PRICES: $1 is not €1!
So it's only fair that we start to profit from that, too, no?

Unless region blocked in your country now, of course.

FRIENDLY STAFF

Just please don't try to communicate with them anymore, we already gave them more workload than they can handle.

Mr.Mumbles: Do I love GOG? Hardly. They've always been nothing more than a business to me. Displaying blind loyalty towards a company (or anything or anyone for that matter) is nothing but reckless and dumb.

The better question: Do I appreciate their existence? That would be a solid yes. If it hadn't been for GOG I may not even have returned to PC gaming after not really bothering much with such for almost a decade. I came for the old favorites and stayed for the DRM-free. Installation limits, online checks, constant internet connection, etc are what made me very wary where gaming was (and in many ways still is) headed.

I'm not terribly concerned about missing out on trivial fluff like (often out-of-place-looking) skins that aren't unlike the ubiquitous pre-order garbage packs I never use anyway. That said, should the day come games here require me to sign in in any form to actually play them I'll be reconsidering my stance on whether to continue using GOG as my main PC games supplier.
Took the words right out my mouth. I 100% agree with you.
I came here for old games made to work easier on modern hardware, usually better than Steam's versions do. That was the main draw early on with Fallout and other games. I also like the client-free and simple offline installer options for these older games not designed to work in a client, as they often have issues with them.

I also like the principle of DRM free and how it respects the consumer, even though I'm not particularly worried about DRM for a variety of reasons. Well, other than Denuvo that is never removed, since it seems to actually work and might prevent game preservation.

Most of the rest doesn't matter too much to me, but I respect everyone else's priorities. It's a shame GOG have changed in some ways that negatively effect them, even if I don't personally care.
gog brought me back to pc gaming in mid 2011. the existence of a fully drm-free storefront was a big deal for me and if gog went away i'd probably, just work my way through my current backlog and emulate nes & snes games. i can't say i'd ever purposefully buy anything with drm.

that said, i generally think gog is a-ok. they do some boneheaded things, but y'know, as long as they keep with the drm-free installers I'll keep buying. so i love the service they provide sure, but they seem pretty okay as a company.
