Hi,

My scenario is that I have a C drive for OS and a D drive for all GOG games. I want to reinstall the OS, but leave D intact then point Galaxy at the game folders on D. The stuff that would be lost and need recreating would be (I think) any registry entries, user profile stuff and shortcuts - all the rest (i.e. the existing game files in the game folders on D) would not need re-downloading.

Can Galaxy handle this in its scan and import function?

Thanks

It should. Be aware though that if a game stores its saves in the user folder instead of the game's folder (for example, The Witcher), you will need to keep a manual backup of them.
Sorry for the delay, I forgot to check this post in the chaos of the bank holiday and only just remembered about it!

Thanks for that, I will give it a go then. I have the entire OS drive imaged anyway so I shouldn't lose anything :)
That's a shame, I tried a test with 2 games (Total Annihilation and Dungeon Keeper) and both didn't work, albeit in different ways.

My test was to uninstall both games first from the source PC then reinstall them from Galaxy on that PC to make sure they were the latest version of the installers. I then copied just the game folders to a new PC, installed Galaxy fresh on that PC and then ran the Scan and Import Folders wizard.

DK was not picked up at all (which is really strange as it was installed using Galaxy!) and then when I tried the mnual Import Folders function, it then proceeded to download the whole game.

TA was picked up by the Scan wizard, but it had a disabled Play button. I restarted Galaxy and the Play button became enabled. The registry entries for TA only appeared when I ran the game which indicates it is the game creating them, not Galaxy I think. So this process may be dependent upon the game exe having that capability of recreating registry keys - I had thought Galaxy would be doing this :(

The best strategy is to relocate My Documents to a different partition. I only keep C: for Windows, everything else is on a different partition. That way you don't have to worry about loosing anything.

Yeah for sure! I would have everything off the OS drive if possible, but those pesky registry entries are what brings the whole plan down ;-)
