Just found out about this one today along with the recent X Rebirth 4.30 patch. Link: https://www.egosoft.com/games/x4/info_en.php

Just what my head needs, a more complex space game :-)

For the Linux fans out there, I spotted a part in the video where the devs mention it will use the Vulkan renderer. My penguin senses tell me this might make a fine addition.

Teladi promissesss it will be very complicated game tsss.
1 up for you :) Had no idea X4 was in the development, really hope they learned the lesson with Rebirth.
Well I just watched part of the video again and I have to say that the ships still look like they have no mass and fly like on invisible rails. Is it so hard to program a more realistic Newtonian flight model like in the Independence War games?

But besides that it looks really cool.

I think that it's easier for most people to handle stuff like you press the throttle, then you accelerate and leave it pressed as opposed to: press it, then stop pressing it so that you keep your speed.
The concept is somewhat intriguing, but then again the X series always looked good on paper. It's the execution that sucked.

I'm just going to stay far away from it until it gets massively positive reviews. If ever.
I too will wait and see. It looks good, but what Avogadro6 said: execution is what matters.
Some new infos:

Please release on GOG during the week before Crimbo (17th to 21st of December)! More time than that should not be needed to wait.

I'm not so sure. They didn't mention gog.com in the X-Universe News.
I guess they will probably release X4 here when they patch the DRM out.

After three weeks it could be done, right. That would make it Friday the 21st. Still not too late to catch some Crimbo shoppers on GOG. Sadly I also believe it will not happen until a year later :-(
They plan expansions (the Collector's Edition advertises as including the first two), so I'd rather wait out those. I do think they will get here eventually.
I just checked Egosoft forums, it's going to be released on Steam only. I have no doubt that once sales on Steam are dead they'll release on GOG but by that stage it'll be too late. Never ceases to amaze me how companies (e.g. Telltale) can change so drastically.

When they finally released that bug ridden pile of dogsh*t X-Rebirth on GOG I (and friends I pesuaded) bought copies to show our support of the choice to use GOG. If they can't do the initial release on GOG as well as Steam then they don't deserve my money.

This. I was about to ask for a source when I read in this thread that a simultaneous GOG release would occur.

Bernd once again successfully confirms why I chose to boycott the last steam exclusive and will continue to boycott Egosoft until his mindset changes.

I do not belittle anyone who chooses to buy Egosoft games on GOG, some of them are very worthy titles.

However, I will not stand idly by when Bernd announces a steam only exclusive once again despite fierce argument in the past to release across storefronts-especially when those 'steam exclusives' turn up on GOG down the line- i.e. the point in which he determines no more sales can be made via steam and at that point decides to involve GOG.

The consumer decides and once again personally I will have none of it.

Oh, I hope that the game will be released here on GOG in a not so far future too.
Steam sucks.
The game looks great.
