Hey everybody! So, no yeah ... CARTOONIES - as Fairfox might say, hey FaFo! (OK to call you FaFo?)

So everyone have favorites right? Studios? Series? Characters? Like or not like? Favorite classic scenes etc. Disney? Hanna-Barbera? Warner Bros? Or maybe you have a certain Anime studio that's made some series or characters close to your heart or perhaps something more arthouse (keep it clean yall 'k? GOG here's a classy comunity) or animated bands like Gorillaz? Maybe you have a long running obsession with a certain all American fat bald yellow dude? Or perhaps something forgotten and obscure? The list is endless ...

"Hey yeah well that's all good 'n fine 'n stuff" I hear you ask "but what do you like Baz?"

First up, of course, Warner Bros short classics made from the mid 1940s to early 1960s. So many classics. where to start.

The classic Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd "shoot him now! Shoot Him now!" scene Is quite possibly the peak of Western Civilization. Maybe y'all can link to it so we can share a larf.

Also many of the early animated feature films Disney made, especially by the actual founder Walt Disney. *Genuflects* Without whom we would not even have animation today. Such as ...

Snow White
Fantasia
Sleeping Beauty
101 Dalmatians
The Aristocats

A more obscure fun favorite are the late '60s, early '70s sort of psychedelic or at least inspired by the psychedelic era they were made in. A few examples

Chattanooga Cats
Here comes the Grump
Wacky Races
Scooby Doo (Well not really obscure is he? Actually, they say this was a favorite of Ex-Prez. Baz Obama when he was a child. Imagine a thing like that?)

Also some Anime, although I haven't watched much recently, Ergo Proxy is an old fave now and I still enjoy occasionally.

And of course I like the Simpsons and South Park and a whole slew of '80s and '90s stuff ... Ren 'n' Stimpy, The Tick etc

Wow so many fond memories both as a child and a "grown up".

BTW. Sorry I can't link to any of 'em cuz I've been so heavily down voted by the Blue Meanies. Which reminds me of another psychedelic classic!

The Beatles Yellow Submarine.
"If you're listening to this song
You may think the words are going wrong
But they're not
He just wrote them like that
'Cause it's only a Northern song"

You gotta love it!!

So ... thanks for sharing. And stay super comfy! :-)

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
Star vs the Forces of Evil.
Is The Order A Rabbit?
The 90's Marvel cartoons.Especially Spider-Man The Animated Series from 1994 ;).Cheers
I like European cartoons like Time Masters, Gandahar, Fantastic Planet, Gwen, ou le livre de sable and the old Asterix movies.

From the US I like the movies of Ralph Bakshi, Animalympics, The Sword in the Stone, Beavis and Butt-Head Do America and a lot of others.

From Japan I like mostly the old hand drawn Animes like Vampire Hunter D, Angel´s Egg, Fist of the North Star and mostly everything before the 2000s.

Mysterious cities of gold, that jumped out at me as well. Actually have it on DVD. It was a good era for kids cartoons that, dogtanion and the three muskethounds, ewoks, d&d, trapdoor, Ulysses, etc.
Too many to list but I'll list a few.The best animated film I've ever seen is Lion King but my overall favorite is The 12 Tasks of Asterix. That scene slays me each time.

As for shows, these are most of my favorites
Bravestarr
Legend of Prince Valiant
Mysterious Cities of Gold
Ducktales
Gummi Bears
Talespin
Goof Troop
Darkwing Duck
and several from Cartoon Network, the best of which:
Ed, Edd and Eddy
but also Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Powerpuff Girls, Cow & Chicken and Samurai Jack. Probably Clone Wars too but I haven't seen it yet.

Oh yes and I can't forget about Beavis and Butt-head. For some reason I just love the overall style of it, which is one reason why I've recently started watching King of the Hill because the way the characters and backgrounds are drawn reminds me a lot of it

Edit : Pretty ashamed of myself for not remembering these two
Batman
Dogtanian

Creature Comforts is awesome made by Aardman Animations.
TV:

Looney Tunes
Scooby Doo
Ducktales and Gummi Bears (especially Ducktales, my favourite show when I was a kid)
Redwall
the original cartoon Clone Wars by Genndy Tartakovsky

But more than anything- the DC Animated Universe (the unsurpassed Batman The Animated Series, the movies based on it, Superman TAS, Batman Beyond and finally Justice League). Those were the best animated shows ever, with superb writing, great visual style and great actors, and I think it's still the best version of the DC Universe in any medium.

And recently there's been Gravity Falls. Only two seasons, but a truly great show - funny, clever, charming.

My top 5 Animated Movies:

Batman Mask of the Phantasm
Iron Giant
Batman Year One
Chicken Run (though it probably shouldn't count here, it's stop motion anmiation)
The Great Mouse Detective

Although I'm not entirely sure about that last spot. The Black Couldron or Batman Under the Red Hood could possibly take it too.

Really? I find it ridiculously overrated and really not very good at all. Then again, that's pretty much what I think of all the Disney animated movies other than Aladdin and the aformentioned Mouse Detective and Black Couldron.

Simba is a lame and unlikeable protagonist, the songs are annoying and out of place, and Timon and Pumba (catchy as Hakuna Matata may be) are obnoxious and often forced comic relief.

Time Masters and Gandahar are way too good animated movies, i've never seen anything close to them. Never seen Fantastic Planet and Gwen, i have to watch them now. Thank you for your accidental recommendations!

Old Asterix movies were cool when i was a kid.

I for one like Yoshiaki Kawajiri animated movies, for instance Wicked City (1987 film).

Oh don't act so surprised, over the years I've learned you and I have some very diverging tastes ;) But at least there are some notable overlaps, Samurai Jack for example :)

Lion King is a cliche answer I know but I can't help but to love it. Why exactly I can't tell you. A major reason definitely would have to be the incredible music and overall atmosphere it helps to create. It's going to sound very corny, so be prepared (heh), but watching the film is like going on a magical journey each time. I still listen to the soundtrack every now and again while driving.

As for the other Disney feature animation films, Aladdin I'd say is my 2nd favorite. I've only seen a select few I realize after looking at the long list of Disney films, but I'm comfortable to describe most I've seen as excellent : The Jungle Book, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, The Rescuers, Atlantis, Treasure Planet, A Goofy Movie.

I've only seen a small part of Black Cauldron, but the little I saw fascinated me. It's very high on the list of films I still want to see.

I'm not sure about Samurai Jack. There are some great episodes in the original series, but most of it I found lacking and a bit boring. I think it really suffered because of the limitations imposed by the powers that be. The beginning of the revival season really drove that point home. And that beginning was phenomenal. Sadly, the last third of that final season was very disapointing for me. It felt rushed and cliched, nothing like the excelletnly paced and atmospheric beginning.

The Little Mermaid is to this day one of the only two movies I ever walked out of :D It was just so tediously boring. Beauty and the Beast I find just as boring, but thankfuly I didn;t go to see that in the theatre. And I greatly dislike Disney's Jungle Book. It badly cheapens and "disneyfies" the superb book. All of it's depth, mood and style is gone. Same is true for Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan.

Hell, even The Black Cauldron, which is a great movie in it's own right, is a pale shadow of the superb books that it's (very loosly) based on.

The only time Disney came close to doing justice to a book is Winnie the Pooh. That is a really nice movie that feels close to the book. It's not as good, but it's also not a betrayal, it's quite nice and captures a lot of the spirit of the original.

There are some episodes I didn't enjoy all that much sure, but I think I can say that I'm a fan of most of it. It's difficult to say because I can't remember all of them. Examples of ones I didn't like include the one where he loses his sword to those weird creatures, the one where he travels with that green woman and the one with the, uhm, farting dragon. But I'm sure there are more.
And I still haven't gotten round to watching the new ones I'm afraid. Not sure where to watch it though. I'm going to have to find out.

Well, I was like 5 when I watched The Little Mermaid for the first time and it definitely helped that I developed a crush on Ariel right away :) But regardless, both it and BatB I continue to hold in high regard even though I'll admit that I find it unlikely that I'd want to sit through either two again. At least on most days.

But as for your stance on Jungle Book, that's different. I completely get that someone may become a fan of the book and then resent the fact that the adaptation cheapens/trivializes/completely change the plot and characters for whatever reason.
Luckily for me in this regard I haven't read any of the books these films are based on (and based on what you've just said I'm glad I didn't - before the films at least, I still want to read them), so luckily I was free to judge the films entirely on their on merits. But for any fans of preceding media/literature that is of course impossible. It's just that you sometimes(usually?) get the short end of the stick. I know that all to well myself. For example, I've recently had to make peace with the fact that the Star Wars universe in film may very well have left me behind. I didn't like ep7 at all, and didn't even bother going to see ep8. However if I had somehow managed to never see the ep1-6 and become a Star Wars fan, then I imagine I would'e quite liked ep7.

edit : Oh and just to express my solidarity in not liking a film because of its betrayal of the source material: I hate, hate, haaaate 'Asterix and the Vikings'. It's not a Disney production, but god damn, if there ever were an example of a disney'fied story then this is it. The Asterix stories are about one thing first and foremost : the adventures of Asterix and Obelix. So what did those geniuses do? They took the book Asterix and the Normans, took the basic idea behind the plot, took the character Justforkix, made him the main character, gave him a love interest, and made the film about the two of them! Hell the damn film ends with him winning her heart, and subsequently marrying. WTffF? Given the once-in-a-blue-moon nature of Asterix films I'm still pissed off about it...

I have the full box set with cards and posters, but I believe it's been long out of print. I had to buy it on Amazon at the time because none of the physical stores seemed to carry it.
Now I'm just waiting for DVD releases of Around the World with Willy Fogg and Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea.

Oh fuck. How could I forget about Generator Rex? I made such a fuss when CN cancelled it. And then of course there's My Life as a Teenage Robot on Nick Toons.
