I find discussions about lore in games always fun. Especially about big universes such as Warcraft's.

HGiles: Try GW2. It's basically an action RPG online.

mqstout: No thanks. I have GW1 and still play occasionally, but GW2 is a terrible. They took all the worst and focused on it. Sadly my partner plays it. Ultramega grindfest with stupid underwater bullshit and none of the stuff that made GW1 great.
GW1 was so great I'd love it to be still 'populated'. Every other mmo I saw was just some 'grindable' nonsense whereas GW1 had truly great mechanics. I think GW2 is a complete pointless experience in comparison.
The problem with WoW is that while there is a good game there is also a lot of stupid choices and anti consumer practices because they can get away with it while other games wouldn't.
Empty servers were a large problem for years and thousands of complaints yet it was only dealt with in recent times with virtual realm mergers. There was hardly any new content for over a year before WoD. Bad players are allowed to grow and aspects of the game keep getting dumber.
Having said that there looks like there's still plenty of people who are happy to spend money on both the games and expansions plus a subscription and a lot of ingame purchases which were said to have raked in about 600 million this year.
I look at people who quit wow like people coming home from a pow camp where they had to mine gold.
