Didnt GoG say sales devalue games lol?

Im not saying this is bad i just thought it was kinda funny :p
They believe that going for more than -60% discount is devaluating video games. Which is even funnier.
No? GOG said that Steam-style, 75% off sales devalued games, as opposed to GOG's more modest sales. Certainly they have an effect; if I can find it, there's an interesting post in the Steam forum from a game developer on why he raised the price of his game. What he noticed is that people on Steam would only buy his game when it was on sale; i.e. they won't buy a given $5 game, but if the exact same game is priced at $10, and then given a 50% of sale, they'll buy it. So certainly Steam's sale-oriented approach does have an effect; whether or not this effect is a problem, I leave to others.

I don't think a sale necessarily lowers the value, but how it's done has an impact. It definitely tends to be abused. These days it seems something is always on sale, and for too long a period, so in that sense, I can see how people can come to expect it and even wait for it. But at the same time, it seems a lot of people just can't spend the way they used to. I know I can't.

I really want "Kingdoms of Amalur" but I can't afford sixty bucks. If it went on sale for thirty I still wouldn't buy it. If there happened to be a "One day only! Get this game for ten bucks!" sale, I would certainly get it.

But that's only because finances suck. If I could afford sixty, I'd have paid sixty and had it on release day. But that's just not realistic anymore. I haven't even purchased any games here in quite a while.

It used to be 50% until we all complained...

Actually a person ( I think enigmatic) who works for gog said on the forums that DD sales makes the game feel less special or something when they are cheaper and not paid for in full price. A couple of people asked the valid question as to how that doesn't apply to gog's sales/ lower prices but he never answered as far as I know ( because he had no good answer).

sales are nice. what would be nicer, is another 100 percent off like fallout. must have devalued that game all the way to zero!
I was left with the impression they were refering to the "Buy all of the games from this publisher really cheap, but only if you buy them all!" kind of packs. This kind of deals makes me think people would look to those games as "meh, those were the lame games I had to take so I could buy X and Y games for dirt cheap".
As far as 'Devaluing' goes I've been considering purchasing more from Greenman now that they've given me enough games free to have a library with them - especially games that have sequels.

So, at least, it's not devaluing Greenman. XD
And having a backlog a 400 games that we'll never play (or just for 4 minutes each) isn't "devaluating" the games ?

It was on sale on Amazon not long ago for 15 bucks.

As for devaluing of the games, all I can say is I've found several game devs through deep discount sales that I would never have tried if the games weren't on sale. And because I tried them and liked them, I'm likely to buy more games from them. So I figure those game weren't devalued.

And yeah, I have a backlog of almost 100 games. But I intend to play every one of them. I don't buy games that I don't intend to play.
