So, the new Alien Breed game is finally done, and can be obtained through Steam, if You like Steam, that is.
After viewing the trailer i have to say it looks just like ShadowGrounds, which was in many ways an AB tribute. And then there were Space Siege game, and another similar game which title i've forgotten.
The question is, is the new AB up to par with it's competitors/tributes?
Has anyone played this already?
i agree that it looks a lot like Shadowgrounds.
That was a fun enough game for a few hours, but not worth 15$ imho, so I'll wait until a sale to get it. Plus, I have a huge backlog of games already and I don't really need to add to it right now.
I have played demo and frankly enjoyed Alien shooter games way more. All the fancy graphics gets in the way of actual fun of shooting thousands of monsters. ... Since it't UT3 engine, it'll be more like 5 monsters, that's kinda off-putting as well
It plays like shadow grounds but the camera is nowhere near as smooth in AB:I.
I picked it up though as I enjoyed the demo. Word of caution though, it's nothing like the original Alien Breed which is a bit of a disappointment given that they went with the same name.
I had a lot of fun with it on xbox. Played the demo and i must say it controls also better on xbox.(allthough both versions have strange cameras) And it was cheaper on xbox. But it is a lot of fun but not like the original like others already said...

Is this different to the XBLA Alien Breed? That was a big disapointment to my mind. There were two half-decent games in there, but they just weren't a good match for each other.
I just checked it out myself, and i'll complain about a different thing. The game seems stretched and artificial. I mean, You've got a level, and the game tells You to go to the X spot, and turn something off, which then unblocks the door to a different section, and it's so redundant it hurts. I've felt like it was Dead Space all over again. What really pissed me off is that there is only one way and one order in which things can be done, and it's so painfully visable, it hurts. Sure, that's how games are done today, but this one is just shameless on that aspect.
Shadowgrounds just seems much better, which is so weird, that the pupil surpassed the master, and then, when the master saw it, he tried to surpass the pupil, and failed. Damn You TEAM17 for not trying hard enough.
But the Intex Systems on launch were a nice touch. I'll crawl back to my Tower Assault and die for the 2708954th time. :)

I have no idea, i'm a PC gamer. You'll have to check that out by yourself. ;)
This was one of my all-time favorite series on the Amiga. I'd love to check the new one out, but I generally stay the hell away from Steam. Perhaps when it shows up on GOG in a few years. :-)

It's an enhanced version of Evolution -- weapon upgrades, loot, improved graphics, more diverse enemies, etc.
I played the Alien Breed: Impact demo. I enjoyed it, but I felt like I was playing Shadowgrounds. Since I haven't finished that or Shadowgrounds: Survivor yet, I decided I could pass on this new game.
meh :(
someone already posted this game on the GOG wishlist

Arteveld: snip

To be honest, it's no worse than the original mechanic of the Alien Breed where you had to go around finding (or buying) all those damned keys. If you took the wrong route and ran out of keys, you could pretty much destroy all chances of completing a level. The new game may be linear but then, so was the original ultimately.

Sadly, it's a SteamWorks game. It won't be making its way to GOG.

Shooting doors was also common. :) I agree, but in the original AB levels were a bit different, on one You had to close some doors, on the other run, etc, while here, You do different stuff, but in the same way. It doesn't matter if You're shutting down some vents, or restarting the engine, or anything else, it's always done in the same way, using consoles spread around the whole level. It lacks a bit of diversity, which i believe the original had.
It also feels small, every place You can go, You'll eventually have to go to. No pointless corridors. See, if there's a route that goes left, when You have to go right, You can be sure, it's either a secret place or a place You'll have to go later. And that makes the game feel compressed.
I am not saying the new AB is bad, it's just a bit disappointing, both compared to the original AB's, and the tributes [SG].
Perhaps it gets a modding community that sadly didn't go well with ShadowGrounds.
All in all, we don't get a reboot that actually reminds us of the original, but is also made by the same company. That's nice. ;)
