Red_Avatar: It's very easy to create a package that will play a certain game, but the sore point is the rom files. As long as Cloanto refuses to make these free or doesn't find a way to integrate them into the game file (essentially stopping people from ripping them out), it won't work, however.
Correct, and that was what I was suggesting, a kind of digital wrapper that isn't a standalone emulator per se but a self-contained emulator for just the game(s) in question. There should be a way to create such an environment, but again, the question is whether it would yield profitable returns (and whether Cloanto would allow it). As has been mentioned before, it may require a per unit cut to Cloanto to pay back the licensing cost. And in that scenario, they might in turn insist on DRM to "prevent" sharing that would deny them their cut. Which would take GOG out of the running again.

(I scare-quote "prevent" because we all know DRM prevents sod-all, except perhaps when it prevents legitimate purchasers from playing or backing up the game they bought.)

If the individually wrapped route is the way GOG would rather go, there is no reason to deal with Cloanto at all. Manomio is releasing licensed Amiga games in standalone wrappers with licensed, unprotected kick ROMs. Gog surely has enough clout to arrange similar agreements on their own.

Wonderful, glad to see some motion on this again. After having talked with developers who have Amiga releases that would like to bring them out again, I would really love to see this go forward. If GOG and Cloanto can negotiate decent terms, this could be the final break in the dam that is keeping tons of great Amiga games off the market.
This would be so unbelievably cool.
I really do hope this can get underway. There are so many fantastic titles that deserve to reach as wide an audience as possible.

Oh yeah. Even if games weren't better on the Amiga than their PC counterparts, the sound during the Adlib era was pretty much universally superior.
Also, Wings. Wings are awesome.

Don't worry, this thread is very much alive, if occasionally catatonic. :) I will agitate for the release of Amiga games whenever I get the platform.
