Feffe: Thanks everyone :D I'll try Treasure Adventure and Manhattan Project (already own Bunny, CS and La Mulana).
@tinyE: My old PC wasn't able to run TL2 but had no problem with La Mulana, you'll probably run it fine. Regarding doing levels over and over again, every area as an useful teleporter :)
Thank You!

Project Black Sun is a pretty decent game, but it is also incredibly hard. You can take very little damage, and the enemy attack patterns, while not unfair, are not all that easy to dodge.

Feffe: Can anyone suggest me a good Metroidvania on Gog? Or a platform with huge levels? Thanks :)
I know this is an old thread so I don't know if anyone will read this. But if you don't mind 3D, Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 are all metroidvanias. They're all nonlinear action/adventure games with some platforming elements, with new pathways that "unlock" in previously explored areas as you gain new abilities.

Hmm.. The 2D side-scrolling and "hub" design are missing, to qualify as "Metroidvania." .. To me, anyway.

Look, the 3D & top-view Zelda's could be "Metroidvania" either, if it was just aquiring items / powers to progress further..

In that sense, the second Zelda side-scroller on NES seems to be one, but it is missing a certain "hub" of a map, to qualify, either.. It has an overwold map, and that alone makes it too different from "true" Metroidvania design to fit in the genre.

Azrael360: Yes, as everyone said, La-Mulana is the closest game to a Metroidvania game you'll get now on GOG.

You can also try the FREE game Treasure Adventure Game.

May I suggest, if you have a Desura account, to try these games?
Bunny Must Die!, a japanese Metrovania game very similar to Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night, only more cute ^_^
Cave Story+, the well known indie japanese game.
Cavestory is really cool, I enjoyed playing it on my old Caanoo a while ago.
All the mentioned plus Unepic. Genres can be tricky, but I think that Unepic is a pure example of metroidvania. Open world, you unlock zones by progression, mild character development, simple NPC's to buy/sell and get quests, sidescrolling jumping and killing gameplay...
Guacamelee might interest you too. Just keep in mind that an improved version is about to release, were you interested.
Here on GOG:
La-mulana(warning though the game is tough)
Unepic
Valdis Story

Elsewhere:
Bunny Must Die! Chelsea and the 7 Devils(Steam/Desura)
What about Guacamelee? I haven't played it yet, but I read that it is in some respect also like a Metroidvania game.

...
Anyway, my actual reason for posting: Anyone else getting the bug like in the first attached picture? The last post on the page moved below the "new post" tab. Maybe it is somehow connected to Necdilzor's post with the different text size, the posts are not nicely aligned there.
Sorry for being mostly offtopic. If it's not just me, I will write to support or something.

I have the same bug, on page 1.
I've heard Guacamelee might be that style, but I haven't played it yet. Dust: An Elysian Tail definitely has some MetroidVania type exploring and skill vs area unlocks.

So do I, using Pale Moon. I couldn't replicate it in IE.
Not on GOG (yet?) but 1001 Spikes is great.

Nor can I. Then again, I don't have IE installed, so that may be why.

EDIT: Pale Moon, Chromium, and Opera 12 play nice-buggy though.

sunshinecorp: 1001 Spikes
That's not a Metroidvania, but it's still a good game.

It isn't? Dunno, maybe you're right, I'm not really an expert, but it seemed like one to me. :D
