I been looking around for the original Civilization but can't find it. Not Steam, nor
Direct2Drive nor Gamersgate and of course, it's not here (yet?). If i Google for "Civilization download" all i get is crappy abandonware sites.
And the most frustrating part is that i have an actual copy but is in those ancient 5 inch disks that i have no way of reading and probably don't work anyway.
Anyone knows of a site that has it for sale? Bonus points if it doesn't carry DRM.
The only thing I know of is FreeCiv, an open source Civ clone/remake. I know its not RealCiv, but hopefully, it'll satisfy your Civ pinning :-)
Yeah, play FreeCiv til GOG gets the series. :)
Well, not all the abandonware sites are "crappy". Just look for something like Abandonia and you should be good to go....

It's not (legally) available for download anywhere. However, it is included in the Civilization Chronicles retail release.
Grab it from Abandonia with peace of mind, you can safely ignore copyright when it is meaningless.

Amen to that :-P
Did some research and I found The Civ Chronicles on Amazon for $87. On eBay it costs $75 (if you choose Buy It Now) but there's one auction that ends in 4 days where the game costs $34. But then again if you live outside the US you probably have to pay between $30 and $40 just in shipping. And then there's the customs... o.O It's such a turn off to buy the retail of something old when there's a chance it will end up on GoG anyways. What I'm trying to say is that GoG is a huge turn on.

eBay UK has a couple of copies with a saner price for EU residents.
I also found a single (unopened) copy on dba.dk for DKK 150 (~$25-30).

He asked for places to buy the game. Don't promote piracy here, please.
GOG wouldn't advertise on the oldgames website if they disapproved. So chillax, please.

Hmm, I could swear I used the worldwide search button. Those UK prices aren't bad at all. The one for £14 would've been tempting if it wasn't for the card games missing. But I have a feeling the first 2 games will find their way digitally too when Civilication V gets released this year.
What is driving me nuts are some of the prices, there's a copy on Ebay right now going for $84!
And to the guys that recommended Freeciv, thanks, as a matter of fact, that's one of the games that never leave my pc, and i have been using it for years, now call me crazy if you want, but i'm looking for the "feel" that the original MS-DOS version had, i got the itch but i can't reach! Comprende?
I don't understand how there isn't a dowload site selling this game, is one of the most influential and well known game of the 90s. I even looked around for a USB 5 1/4" disk drive but it looks like such a thing doesn't exist.
edit: screw it, i'm going to check out the pawn store for an old computer.
