thegammaray: .9.3 is almost three years old. I like fine wine as much as the next guy, but the encoding libraries seem to have improved quite a bit in the meantime. To each his own, I guess.

If you decide to use the current version, the Handbrake website says .9.5's "Normal" preset should work fine with PS3s. Again, I can't verify, but that seems to be the simplest solution. If that's what you already tried (hence your first post on disappointing video quality), then try knocking the RF down a point on the video quality slider.

.9.5 uses an RF(?) slider instead of the percentage slider from earlier Handbrake versions. For more information: https://trac.handbrake.fr/wiki/ConstantQuality
Ok, now this makes much more sense to me. When I was using 0.9.5, I completely missed those "RF" settings and instead just increased the average bitrate in an effort to produce better quality (works with music, why not video, right?). All I really succeeded in doing was creating a larger file. Running the same video through with the imported PS3 template, but using the constant quality of "20" produced not only a much better looking file, but a much smaller one too.

I'm comparing the "Normal" template to the PS3 template I've been using and it appears the only major difference between them is the PS3 template has the Decomb filter set to "Default" while the Normal template is set to "Off". Reading up on Decomb, it seems to be something I should have on if I want the best possible video quality, would you agree?
Most movies in the States aren't interlaced, so decomb won't do anything. But since it won't do anything, it can't hurt. :p I think animation is often interlaced, so you might as well leave decomb enabled, I guess.

Good luck!
Hot Fuzz, Farscape the Peacekeeper Wars, Dark City and Ultimate Avengers all ripped and gorgeous looking! On to the rest of my massive pile of movies! Thanks for the help.
