The current host for didimatic.com has been giving me nothing but problems with their lack of reliability and poor support for the last month. So I think it's time I move the domain over to a new host.
So my question is, does anyone have any recommendations for a host that is able to satisfy the following criteria:
1 - PHP 5 support (with configurable php.ini or, at the very least, no "safe mode" restrictions)
2 - MySQL support (preferably with access to PhpMyAdmin as well)
3 - Cron Jobs (must be very reliable, i.e., will run without fail for at least 22 hours a day, every day)
4 - Be affordable (I'm not made of money sadly, so I cannot current afford much more than $100 to $200 USD or so a year for hosting)
5 - Good support (preferably able to respond to problems 24/7)
There's 5 shiny rep points in it if you can help didimatic find a better home!

TheJoe: I run a server that could be pretty much what you're looking for.

I don't have an IRC client. So could you email me at google's email service using my user name here, so that we could discuss this and really see if the site is suitable.
My only over alternative, after chatting to a lot of the support teams for some of the other suggestions, so far, appears to be using HostGator and paying for a VPS.

If you prefer your own server, I highly recommend Linode. Hell, if you use my referral code I'll even set up the whole thing for you.
Linode's features focus on on-the-fly ease of use. You can change Linux distributions with a single click, upgrade your VPS, add new features and you only have to reboot when it comes to a few changes (like kernel, RAM etc).
A Linode 360 really is all you need for... everything. You're not limited on use either, you can do what you want, so long as it's legal. Hell, I run two Skulltag servers and have a 24/7 IRC connection as well as more than 4 websites.
It is, of course, command line only. Running a desktop on a VPS would be highly impractical, if you're not comfortable with Linux, then it wouldn't be the right way to go.

The prices are good, but unless I could get something like cPanel on it, I wouldn't be able to use it. I have no clue when it comes to Linux =( HostGator do offer VPS with cPanel, it's a bit pricey though.
Do you know whether it is possible to install something like cPanel on Linode? And any idea of cost for such?

Of course you can! Didn't I say you could do anything? If you were to buy a cPanel license, you could install it on your VPS, or you could use a free administration panel, of which there are hundreds. There's one that comes highly recommended called 'ispconfig', I haven't used it myself since I don't use Apache, but I always hear good things about it.
And like I said, I'll set up the whole thing for you if you want.

TheJoe: *snip*

Sorry, I'm running on vapor here. Haven't slept for more than 3 hours in the last 24. Just found the pricing for cPanel and I can't afford that. So you say there are free/open source ones? I just need to be able to easily set cron jobs, set up and access databases (hopefully with PHPMyAdmin too), set up AwStats or similar. Perhaps a wordpress install, php 5 and something for email.
I'm not that up on the behind the scenes stuff, but if you can help, I would certainly reimburse you for your time and work. Like I say, it may be best to discuss this via email. And perhaps after I've slept a bit more.
If I do go for linode, I'll probably have to start with the cheapest option. Then perhaps upgrade as the site requires it.

Feel free to drop me a line at joe[at]thosedamnpeanuts[dot]com.
And trust me, you won't need upgrading. I've been on the 360 since early last year and, if anything, I'd like to downgrade if it was possible.

Thanks. I'll email you in the morning once I wake up. I've made a note of your email address so feel free to edit it out of your post if you wish.
I've marked TheJoe's post as the solution as he's helped me come up with a plan for Didimatic. I'm basically going to get a temp VPS with HostGator while I get comfortable with a Linode. This way, I can eventually shift to a cheaper hosting plan once I'm confident that Didimatic won't be disrupted too badly anymore.
It's already had enough problems which has probably driven users away =(
Just thought I'd update this and once again thank TheJoe, who was kind enough to work with me the past week or so to set up a Linode for Didimatic. The site is now currently moving over to this Linode which is providing a far better level of service (and at a great price =)) than my previous hosts were.
So this means that automatic updates of Steam and GamersGate sales will start up again, and I can finally get back to adding tracking of other sites and adding new features =)
So glad that headache is now behind me.
