Hi everyone.

I have been browsing GOG for quite some time and encountering titles I have never heard of that look similar to games I have liked in the past, but it is hard to tell if they have that certain 'magic' that made my favourites so enjoyable.
I can appreciate almost any genre, but I tend to stick to sci-fi / fantasy. Some of my faves on the PC...
Baldur's Gate
The Horde
Star Control II
Icewind Dale
Warlords 4
Warlords Battlecry series
Warcraft
Starcraft
Syndicate
Dune
Morrowind

Any suggestions of games that will probably be to my 'taste' would be most welcome.

Cheers,
Alan M

Try Spellforce (the first one) has RTS of Warcraft and RPG elements plus its a steal at 5$ right now.
Arcanum maybe? A pretty free world of Steampunk is fun to roam around in! Get the unofficial patches though as it simply fixes some of the bugs and balances the game.
Hello.

Based on the games you listed, I'd say Planescape: Torment. It's mighty well written.

Also, I recommend Giants: Citizen Kabuto and Sacrifice, just because those 2 games get recommended to everyone in pretty much every thread here. The games are pretty cool, too.
Based on your list, it looks like you are mainly looking for RPGs and real-time strategies. For RPGs, you can't go wrong with Planescape: Torment and Arcanum. Neverwinter Nights and Temple of Elemental Evil are both also worth looking at (the latter being primarily about combat, not so much story);

As far as strategies go, Total Annihilation is a good choice.
Arcanum, Planescape:Torment, Divine Divinity. As noted, Temple of Elemental Evil is excellent, as long as you install the Circle of Eight mod. Neverwinter Nights has so much community content that I think you actively have to try to not enjoy it. There is the potential for literally thousands of hours of enjoyment.
Did you try any of the free adventure games here on GoG? I always try to introduce people to adventure.
Its been said already, but Arcanum is great. You can customize & groom your character into whatever you what him/her to be & the main story is great as well.

Also, the Fallout games for the same reason, but "bleak future" may not be palatable to everyone.
Try Commandos series.
Suprised no one has mentioned Space Rangers 2. The game is a blast, you should defiently look into that one. I like most of the same games you do, and I have lost many weeks to Space Rangers 2. It has turn-based space combat, real-time on planet robot combat, text based adventures (which are entertaining), and other minigames too. There are many ships and equiptment to buy, missions to perform, even medals to obtain, and you can increase your characters skills, be they fighting based, or otherwise. There's a leader board in game, so you can test your stuff against the computer players. It's a great game, definetly worth it to me.
