wizardtypething: I've never had a problem with playing with auto-aim disabled on consoles - which is what I've been doing longer than I have been PC gaming.
Well like I said, been doing this a month, so... yeah.

It's less about accuracy and more about the drunk feel, really. I just always go too far and then make a big swing back or whatever. And yeah some slower games feel fine, and some get the auto-aim better than others, but it seems really hit and miss. Killzone Shadow Fall had several sections where you're fighting a ton of enemies at once and I just wanted to throw the control into lava and say fuck my hand while playing a mouse shooter.

So it depends.

I suppose it's something y'grow into. I've only recently been upping the controller sensitivities to maximum and even that takes some getting used to.

StingingVelvet: I was big into NES and SNES but faded away after that. I played the Final Fantasy games on PS1 after that and some multiplayer on N64 with high school friends but not much else.

Seems like everything worth playing on PS2 has been given an HD upgrade for PS3, so not sure I need one?

RedRagan: Since PS2 got a HUGE library of games I say get a PS2. There's a lot of hidden gems you need to try that don't get ported to PS3.
I got a PS2 but getting that HUGE library is very hard here. You can't find games here. I have to buy from Amazon or Ebay and it is very expensive shipment :( :(

worlddan: BTW and FWIW my eye doctor loves the fact I am a gamer. He says that gamers have better eye health.

jjsimp: I've heard the opposite my whole life. They have special eye glasses for people that use computers. I wear contact lenses and I've read that computer users blink less when staring at the computer, their eyes dry out, because they don't blink as much, which causes problems for people that wear contact lenses.

RighteousNixon: Personally, I have never understood why so many PC gamers hate console gaming.
avatar
jjsimp: Let me count the ways...
Auto Aim is cheating
Gamepad's suck
Games are pricier
Dumb downed interfaces for our favorite games - RTS and dungeon crawlers.
Due to the popularity of consoles less computer games are made or they are just shitty ports.
Have to pay for multiplayer
Social aspect of games are more emphasized

Other PC enthusiasts feel free to add to my list if I forgot something.
Sorry, but short of the prices and paying for multiplayer, both of which I have no problem with, those are all subjective and arguing with people about subjective opinion is about as pointless as pointless gets. I will simply say I disagree with everything you have said and leave it at that, lol.

So, as I was saying, I will never understand people like yourself and to be perfectly honest, I really don't want to. I will continue enjoying the best of both worlds. I couldn't imagine it any other way.

StingingVelvet: I usually don't get personal on forums, but forgive me this brief info dump on my personal life.

I've been having subtle wrist pain for a couple years now when PC gaming for long stretches of time. I read all the literature on how to prevent it, and I always stopped gaming when it started hurting, but nothing has ever stopped it. I use a claw-grip style mouse hold and it means I move my wrist a LOT when gaming, and put a lot of pressure on it. All attempts to change to a palm-grip style have failed, I just can't get used to it.

Recently the pain and discomfort have been coming earlier, as soon as 20-30 minutes into a gaming session. I finally went and saw a doctor. I have early stage carpal tunnel, and was advised to stop using a mouse to game (or at all, preferably).

I'm not sure what my next steps are. My girl wants me to get a laptop and switch to console gaming, which probably does make the most sense. I know half my Steam library works with gamepads though so I am debating my options. I still plan to play my GOG classics on a touchpad when I can (adventure, rpg, etc) but some of the more modern shooters will probably be shelved. How does Deus Ex play on PS2? Haha... ha... oh god.

Anyway... input is nice, or just salute the end of a 20 year PC gaming addiction, possibly for the better.

Thanks for your time.
Oh man, sorry to hear this.

Ah, I feel your pain..
Two years ago I got a super hands tendonitis\synovitis due to a combination of ITC work+gaming.
Worst error was to keep on withstanding the pain with ice and such.. afterwards I HAD to stop computer anyway, but for a loong period.
Now I'm gradually improving, but at the moment I can only play for a few hours.
I think that bad carpal tunnel can be fixed with surgery, but prevention is way better (and less scary).
Pauses, stretching, activity, desktop ergonomics will all help your hands a lot.
Also, I'm hoping for new input technologies: Haptix, Leap Motion, Myo, Kinect2 on pc?, touchscreens, etc..
Good luck!

p.s: for me wrist braces didn't do much and trackball\gamepad just moved pain to the fingers.
Since someone else bumped this, the current update is that I have been mouse gaming in brief sessions with my entire arm on the desk for support. No pain yet, so who knows.

P.S. I sold my PS4 for $500. I just can't do console shooters.

Welcome back home!

Edit: Seriously though I hope the pain is able to be minimized or controlled entirely. You still have a PS3 for GTA5 and other stuff I'd guess, so keep alternating between that and the PC.

That's the plan!

I really enjoyed playing the Sly Cooper game, so I think I'll be playing third-person action stuff on PS3 to take rests from the mouse.
I had been suffering from RSI (repetitive strain injury) for a couple of years. Both my wrists, my arms and elbows hurt. I couldn’t even lift a cup without pain. Not to mention computer related work, that was nearly impossible.

July 2006
At the end of a three-month internship I felt a slight pain in my right wrist for the first time. In the following days I continued to work normally, hoping that after the next weekend everything would be okay again - but it was not. Even switching the mouse to my left hand did not help significantly. The pain had intensified within a week and now both wrists were already equally affected. On the weekend both forearms ...

I have published my whole story on my website rsipain.com/history.php. You’ll also find comprehensive information on what helped me in the end to overcome this pain (22,000+ words, so arrange enough time ;)). So if you are a fellow sufferer, I hope this can be of help.

Only with touching that Dead island collectors edition breast-bust, err statue thing.

It seems a nice site, thanks for the info and congrats for your healing. +1

P.S: a doctor told me that a completely straight neck position is wrong too. It shouldn't lean forward, but it should also maintain the natural spine curve.
Elbows, then, should be able to rest on a surface: to avoid bending your wrists on keyboard\mouse, it's better to fix your desk\chair height.

RSI and carpal tunnel.... gamer's bane! I feel for you. Strangely, now that I'm working on an Apple magic trackpad, I am having some wrist issues, even though a lot of comments on the web say it's better than a mouse for this reason. I can't be 100% sure it's from this, but I'm working on being more conscious about where my arm is. I've already moved the trackpad farther up the desk so most of my arm is supported, but I seem to think I have to exert more downward pressure when clicking the trackpad vs. my mouse at home.
I had some wrist trouble after i started doing office work full time.

I found Kensington pro trackball nice at work. Before that i had used couple logitech trackballs....but apparently my skin is allergic to the balls or something. the fingers i touched the ball with got really damaged over time.

Been using some ergonomic gaming mouse (Func) at work for past few months and so far the wrist is still holding but we'll see.
