Chem students might find this free add-on helpful.

...Erm, thanks, but what made you think there were a lot of chem students on GOG?
It is useful :D
I think my Chemistry teacher would find this useful as well...

We have a very intelligent, well educated community ?? . . . =)
I remember having an add-on like this on the laptop I borrowed from my last school. (High school/early college equivalent, I guess?)
Turned out it was great for organic chemistry, but for the inorgnaic kind it was kind of meh, since it refused to format the chemical formula for water correctly. :P

Hopefully, DarkPhoenix will show up and give it a in-depth review . . . =)

Just in case I wasn't clear, I used not this but another add-on I can't recall the name of that could also be run independently. It was actually very lacking in features (or at least had a very Spartan interface), but still managed to get the job done well.
Here's hoping this one will treat water and hydroxide ions as special cases, though. :P

lol . . . hope so . . . might be better since the publish date is 22 March 2010 . . . SURELY they have improved it ??? . . .=)

Unfortunately I don't have a copy of MS Word so I can't try out this program myself. For anyone who does want to compare it to what else is out there the main alternative to this would be ISIS Draw, which will get the job done for most students, although is a bit cumbersome for professional use (where ChemDraw remains the industry standard). For anyone who is able to try this out, the main thing to look at is the ease of use of the drawing UI, which is the main thing that differentiates products of this type. Generally look at how easy to access the various drawing tools are (bond types, pre-drawn ring systems, stereochemistry, arrows, etc), how well the interface handles context items (changing bond types via right-click, how quick inserting common heteroatoms is (N, O, P, S, F, Cl)), and also how well the program handles some simple implicit operations (inserting implicit hydrogens on heteroatoms, snapping bonds to 120 degrees, etc). If anyone with word decides to check this out I'd be quite interested to hear how the plugin looks in terms of these questions. And regardless of how good or bad this plugin is I'm still glad to see a new player get into chemical drawing tools, as it might finally convince Symyx to get their ass in gear and start improving their products again (even ChemDraw still has stability issues and a nasty memory leak that Symyx seems to have no interest in fixing up).
Pfft. If you're not hardcoding your molecules in TeX, you're not pro.

True, although while ChemDraw is stupid expensive ISIS Draw is free, which is why I'd consider it the main thing to compare this plugin to.
