Never even heard of the game or the developer, but its always sad to see someone in the business go out like that.
holy crap. they were devlopers of airline tycoon.
i loved airline tycoon. i had polish edition which was extremely funny and awesome.
shame to see them go. mmo is killing business. everyone wants wow's cut but only few manage to survive really...
They made some decent games, sad to see them disappear. I would have liked a sequel to Medieval Lords, that game had some good ideas.
I played Cities XL for a while, nice enough game but the MMO-part was very under-developed. Not that I really cared about that part. I think trying to make a city building MMO was a mistake from the beginning. As a city builder it was quite competent, though not quite in the same league as the Sim City classics.
I had their game City Life which was Cities XL's predecessor. Cities XL was like an online Simcity which from to me seemed like it was going to fail from the start. To get half the features of the game you had to subscribe to it and pay $15 a month. I didn't think a city builder would be worth as much as WoW.
Anyways, I didn't expect them to shut down though. Thats sad, I liked City Life.
Ah, slightly sad to see them go. I played in their open beta for Cities XL and, while it was decent, was underwhelmed.
That's a shame. They made some enjoyable games, including Silverfall (which I had an absolute blast with). Hopefully, everyone manages to find new employment.
Ugh, that sucks. I was really looking forward to CitiesXL singleplayer...
They probably could have done alot better releasing CitiesXL as a pure singleplayer game, alot of people got turned off after seeing the monthly fees to unlock extra features part. It's a gambit that failed. Feel sorry for them, hope they find new jobs and come out with a new city sim soon.
Mediocre developer gets shut down, nothing new here, that's the way it should be.
Hate seeing people get put out of work, but it's not really a shock that they went down. Cities XL was a mess, and they tried to make it in to some sort of City building MMO, but did so by limiting options for single player customers. Not a great way to go about things.

This.
If you're in the simulation development business then you've got to accept that subscription fees are out of the question, no matter what.
Bad news that they're out, now there are just a few developers of this genre IIRC (not counting casuals). But they did choose this path, I was willing to play cities xl, but since they announced it was going to be online and with subscriptions it dropped 99% of my interest in their game.
I was about to buy City Life just the other day, but ended not buying it and instead I've put both their city sims on the wishlist here.

lowyhong: This.

I second this.
There's a number of good companies going all the MMO route on PC, I hope they all don't get fucked up in the near future.
