I'm angry. 12 months ago, I had tthe cance to buy BtS for a cheap price, but back then, I wasn't keen on Civ 4. Now I really like it...
I can't find the expansions anywhere retail. Where could I go online to find an expansion for it that would work with a retail copy?

From what I could find, retail and downloadable don't play nicely with each other. Except for D2D, but that's region restricted to North America and the UK.
The site bensmith85 linked has them, but for the price they're asking, you could get the complete edition from GamersGate, Steam, etc.

I've done business before with the UK branch of that company. The service isn't as good as other places but I got all my stuff.

I bought the complete collection from EB, cause it was cheaper than buying just the expansion for some reason. That said, the expansions are worthless, half the content doesn't work or is already on the net for free, and i find the standard game of civ4 more enjoyable than the crummy scenarios.

I'm not so keen on scenarios and new civs, tc, mainly game functions, like corporations (I saw paratroopers), etc..

I can vouch that CDWow sell legit games...though they're notoriously bad for not telling you outright if they have the games in stock (Rule of thumb: Don't buy the game if the product page says "Expected to ship within 7-10 days"; You'll usually wait for a month or more). Good prices though, as they usually sell UK retail version of the games.

CD wow are legit but yea if they are out of stock it can sometimes be a struggle to either get a refund or wait months for the game. You will get your stuff its just when. Stuff in stock has never been to bad not delivered as fast as play.com(1-2 business days) but I've not had to wait more then a week.
Prakaa its $30 cheaper for the base game and both its expansions and with the complete pack you can still play whichever version you like, I've got 3 desktop icons each pointing to the various states of the game just from installing the complete cd. The game also has fairly extensive options on how to set a game up when you start it.

The nice thing about the complete edition(retail) is that it comes without DRM. And well ... most of the mods out there by now require BTS ... and the mods is where CIV 4 really shines.

And theres my cue for the obligatory mention of the fall from heaven 2 mod. It requires beyond the sword expansion but if you like fantasy as a setting this game is amazing.
