You might have heard that the guys at Stainless Games have been trying to Carmageddon + the Splat Pack if you back the Kickstarter project for $25 or more!

In case you aren’t aware of what Carmageddon is, let’s take you a brief tour of gaming history. It’s the late nineties, and Stainless Software Ltd. brings a game that bursts onto the scene in a spray of blood, a crash of steel, and a anguished shriek of pedestrians when they released Carmageddon. It’s an ultra-violent racing game--this is not one for the kiddies!--where you crash, rend, crush, crumple, and demolish your way to victory. There’s a backstory of sorts--the world has gone to pot, and you’re racing in order to survive in a car-eat-car world--but that’s not the point.

Your job is to win races. Sure, you could play the game like a realistic racing simulator, avoiding any fender-benders and pedestrians. You can even win all of the races that way if you’re talented. But the real fun comes from pulling wild stunts, wrecking and collecting your opponents’ cars, and generally wreaking havoc on the track. Carmageddon launched amidst a lot of controversy due to its violent nature, but under the gore and impressive 3dFX graphics lies a great game.

This will be coming to GOG.com in the upcoming months--our crack team of contentologists is hard at work getting all of the bytes dusted off and all of the graphics buffed to a high shine--and will be available here for $9.99. In the meantime, though, if you want to help make the next Carmageddon game happen, you can back it on Kickstarter, and if you chip in more than $25, you’ll get the GOG.com copy of Carmageddon for free once we’ve gotten it launched!

Gentlemen, start your engines!

Pepsiman34: Is there a rough ETA on when the game will go up for sale?
The absolute latest is September - TheEnigmaticT thinks it will probably be a lot sooner than that though.
Well, apparently Tomb Raider used a glide wrapper (OpenGlide, iirc, surprisingly not nGlide), so one would assume a wrapper could be used for Carma too.
The anticipation of this release is killing me!

I did! I even checked the Android Market to see if it was available. I know it isn't but I just HAD to look. I might even get an iPad for it... >.>

I haven't been this excited for a game in awhile. I can't wait until this and Reincarnation are released.

Hehe I know what you mean - driving my wife nuts with F5 on the comments page of the kickstarter campaign ;)

Nearly at 500k....
Could someone explain this to me (before it's too late to donate money!)? The Kicstarter page says that everyone who donates $25 will get the free GoG voucher, including those who choose the other $25 award, the VIP/Beta access. But that would make the VIP option have everything the GoG award has, and more still. In that case, why is the GoG alternative even there, when there's no reason why anyone would want to pick it?!

$25 - I’M AGOG!!: Those fantastic people at GOG.com (formerly Good Old Games) are bringing the original Carmageddon back! And what’s more, they’ve insisted that everyone who pledges $25 dollars or more to the Carmageddon: Reincarnation Kickstarter campaign will receive a voucher that will allow them to visit GOG.com and download Carmageddon & The Splat Pack for FREE! All the backers of the OTHER $25 Reward tier will get this FREE voucher too. (+Previous Rewards); Delivery Date: on launch of Carmageddon on GOG.com.

Est. Delivery: Sep 2012

$25 - VIP (VERY IMFLAMMABLE PENGUINS): Access to exclusive discussion forums on the carmageddon.com website, where content will also be posted ahead of appearing on the main site. You will also be granted early Beta access to the game, and early access to the official Steam Community game discussion forum. Plus, you get a personal avatar for the site. (+Previous Rewards)

It says +previous reward, so I reckon we get the $15 reward too, that says you get the DRM free version if I'm correct.

If not I'm screwed. XD

IThat's not what I was worried about, that we wouldn't get the $15 reward (i.e. the game, first on Steam and some months later DRM free) if we donate 25 dollars doesn't seem likely, as that would mean we pay $25 for only Carmageddon 1. What I found strange was that there are two different $25 rewards to choose from, one whose description says we get VIP/Beta access and one whose description says we get C1 free from GoG and that this applies for those who choose the other $25 reward (i.e. VIP/Beta) as well. In other words, this means we get to pick either GoG or GoG + VIP/Beta. But this doesn't make any sense at all - why is the GoG only reward even there when the other option gives us that PLUS VIP?!

If I'm not mistaken, Kickstarter doesn't allow companies to edit the packs after funding has started, so when they want to add a new item they have to create a brand new reward, then clarify the info for the backers.

According to this matrix from their official site, you can choose either VIP or I'm AGOG, and you'll get exactly the same items.

You can also send them a message asking them to clarify on Kickstarter.

Thank you! Pretty good value for just 25 dollars! Sure, I don't get physical things, but since I started buying games from GoG I've come to accept paying for abstract binary, at least when they're both cheap and DRM free.
