i don't know about the rest of you but the red alert series, more specifically the original is probably my single favorite game of all time. is there any news on gog releasing this series as a digital download, or is there a problem with licensing rights on it.

EA owns the series, so it wouldn't be a problem of getting EA signed. No word about any of the games coming here though.

EA did release Command and Conquer, Red Alert 1, and Tiberian Sun for free legally in the past. The original page isn't up anymore, but you can find mirrors to download all of them by searching online.

The catch is they just chucked the original ISOs up on the net and said 'good luck'. Even if you got it to run (took third party hacks) multiplayer was definately broken. From what I have been told the newer bundles aren't much better.

this is my problem. i all ready have them all as it is, but i definitely have substantial compatibility issues and have scoured the net to get them to run as stable as possible. gog seems to fix some of the issues surrounding game compatibility and that's soarly needed with some of the older games.

Well publishers are lazy as always, leave it to the fans to fix stuff. I'm playing Portable RA and it runs flawlessly. If you have the original CD/DVDs and do not want to download everything, you can use this RA1 Installer - I did it that way and it works fine. There are probably similar fan made installs for C&C1 too, but I played that back in the day and have not bothered researching it.

I just did Allied Mission 5. Tanya kicks ass! :D

It's partly that and partly that the code was always pretty terrible. Anyone here remember trying to get a network C&C game to actually work? The odds of reaching the end of the game were about 70% with two people and 10% with four. By comparison Warcraft 2 was a much more solid game. Even the original release plays well today (though dosbox of course).

Try this: http://iran.cnc-comm.com/ra/
Red Alert with official patches and some additional unofficial fixes pre-applied, fully portable too, with high resolution and compatibility fixes for modern machines. Works a treat for me.

Just go to the downloads tab and use the two main downloads on the left hand side:
Download game installer 145MB
Download videos installer 580MB
