Klink: The one way to solve this entire console debate (in a Utopian world anyway) is to make just one console. No PS4, no Xbox 720, no Nintendo Woo, just one console. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo can then concentrate on focusing all their resources on the software market (each major publisher has their own major franchises). What this will then do is cut down on losses made from developing hardware and it makes it easier for consumers to buy just one console that can play everything (multi-platform seems to be the big thing nowadays).
One can only dream...

Yeah, but then there'd be no competition to drive new advancements in technology.
As I said in the intro thread, aside from Oregon Trail and the like at school, I grew up on consoles because it's what my family had. Once I had my own money I bought a computer (386DX 66) and started getting games for it, including any collections of games I could find. Then I started building my own machines.
Around then I moved away from console games mostly for convience factor. With PC games I didn't have to worry that I was taking a TV away from someone else, but other things factored in as well. So once PCs could emulate PSX games, I gave my console away and just kept the games. (Mostly JRPGS) I skipped the last gen completely and I didn't go back to consoles until recently when I got a monitor with a component input. Now I have all three current consoles, a DS, and a gaming PC. Which one I play the most depends on which games came out recently, or which old game I'm in the mood to replay. (Yes, even the Wii gets used, but mostly because of Virtual console and the fact that I skipped the GameCube.)
My 360 left on Monday on its way to Texas to be replaced, but I have plenty of games to keep me busy (Lets just ignore the fact that my copy of Vesperia finally arrived the day after the thing died.)

couple of things
1. my definition of a console gamer, is one who shuns pc games to only play on console games.
2. most console games that have a PC port are inferior to their PC brethren (for a clear example, compare wolfenstien 3d on SNES to it's PC counter part, it was censored).
3. A majority of people can be console gamers, because it's literally like a dvd player, while with the PC you have to know your computer specs, how to install a program, make sure your drivers are upto date, etc.
me, personally, I do both, I think for someone to classify themselves as only one or the other, is retarded. Why shut out a perfectly grand part of life?
Geometry wars isn't as good on PC as it is on XboX live Arcade.
Some games require the console experience.
This is why I both play console and PC games. I just like playing games.
I play my PSP, I play my Xbox, I play my NES, I play my regular playstation, I play playstation 2, I play my NDS, I play on my PC.
I farkin' play games.
I believe much of the debate is due to consumers trying to justify their choice of platform. It is the same for console gamers who argue between the Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360. They argue amongst themselves over which console is more powerful, has the most exclusives, the better online marketplace, better graphics, and whatever else. To me, they aren't overly sure of their choice in product, so they argue constantly online to justify it. It is practically the same with PC vs console gamers.
I consider myself a PC gamer, but mostly because I cannot afford the PS3 and Xbox 360 at this time, but I have played many of the consoles in the past. Each has it's strengths and weaknesses, and excel in different game genres. Arguing over the two is pretty pointless and goes nowhere in the end.
It reminds me of game reviews and gaming forums. People try to justify their choices of games by the reviews they receive, unable to make their own opinion on the product. It is a sad state really.

Oh god, remember what happened with Adam Sessler when he gave Crisis Core a 3 out of 5? Personally, I get called a PC fanboy and a contrarian all the time because I say Halo is fun, but not in my list of top FPSes, even though I go out of my way to not use negative language while saying it and always specify I don't think it's bad. It's kind of scary how far people will defend a game.
An internet friend of mine does some awesome icons for consoles. They are the best I've ever seen and they don't cost you guys a penny.

Long live console emulation!
Console gamer? For me, it's self-explainatory: Console gamer is someone who playes console games more that PC ones :D No insults whatsoever included. I have no idea WHY should I insult people, who play concole games, I only insult idiocy and arogance :D
People never change, anyway. We have the same thing in sports, politics... It's just internet gives you anonymity, so when in reality, some wouldn't have the guts to say: "Hey, ur an idiot, MY team RULEZZZZZZZ!" to a guy twice as big as he is, so this kind of quarrels are more common on the internet...

I swear I'm not following you around Fenixp, haha. But yes, I agree with what you say. I love both my console and my PC, but now a days my PC only gets used to play retro games.
There are extremists on both sides of console vs. PC though, and both sides are made to seem the worse for it. Consoles tend to start with much nicer graphics in their life span than a sub $5k computer can put out, but end with run of the mill graphics. Both platforms have a ton of exclusives, and both platforms get a ton of "shovelware". Neither platform is better than the other. Although I have to say I love my console for just casual, no hassle gaming. Don't gotta worry about install/patch/set up. It is nice that you can configure everything and get free patches/add-ons for most PC games though.

Did anyone catch the latest castle vidcons?
In Due Time
It speaks on this very subject
I'd definitely classify myself as a "PC Gamer," but that only came about because I never had enough money for both. :P
In terms of the PC/console gamer wars, I don't really have anything against the gamers. But I have to agree with what someone said here earlier about the "mythical console gamer" that more and more developers seem to be catering to. It's a sad sight when we see a developer start to simplify their games more and more to try to make it more appealing for the console version.
One good example would be Bethesda Softworks with Morrowind and Oblivion. Morrowind was an incredible game with more weapons, items, customizability, and in-depth interfaces than all their previous games. On the other hand, Oblivion feels very dumbed down in comparison. Oh yes, it's a very beautiful game, but it doesn't have the same grab as Morrowind did. Half the weapons and customizability are gone, many of the skills are combined into generic ones, and the interface is lackluster.
From what I heard, Morrowind ported pretty well to the Xbox, so why did they feel Oblivion had to be oversimplified? And that's just one example of many. I'm just hoping Bethesda redeems themselves with Fallout 3! :D

Well, I do consider myself a console gamer, but that's only because I actually play most of my games on consoles... I'm a Sony fanboy, specifically. :)
The only games I play on the PC are...older games. LOL
