BlueMooner: Sure, it SOUNDS cool, but you don't want to know what happens when I go to the bathroom.... (hidden message)
At least you don't shred your tongue, lol mmm this steak tastes irony...oh shi-!
So you turned into a Reaver (Firefly)?
It wouldn't hurt to check your RAM, especially if are also having problems with other large downloads or memory intensive programs (burning DVDs, editing video, etc). You could also try Memtest86.

Sorry your day sucked. My life sucks. I have no idea what popadoms are.
An update on this:

The animal blood didn't taste great, and I'm pretty sure I've now contracted malaria. Bad suggestion overall.

However, I was able to download Beneath A Steel Sky today (small download, just to test it out) and it was up and running fine. Unfortunately, I'm having crashes still on some stuff outside of that (non-GOG-related, stupid League of Legends). I'm going to try a bigger download and see what's up.

I also know that...for some reason...I can't get memtest86 to boot from my USB drive despite boot priority being set up properly. YAY ASUS BIOS! -__-

No worries, it's mostly just because I got a cold that is going around and I feel like crap. popadoms are are like these baked goods that go good for dipping in curry or soup or other such things. Very, Very good.

Umm, If it's giving you trouble DURING boot process try pressing Esc or F2 to pull up a list of drives to boot from. You should be able to find your USB stick in that (it's how I boot to my Live USB distros), I hope that helps you out. Also I believe MemTest is on the Linux Mint 13 has MemTest available from it's boot list when you pop the disc/usb in; which you could also try. Again, I hope this is of some help to you.

Update: the problem has been fixed and solved.

There were a lot of shared DLLs that were causing some issues, but the big thing that I did which seemed to fix it was updating Adobe AIR. That's kind of a weird thing, but it made everything come together and I've had no problems since.

My GOG stuff is also finally working, which I confirmed amongst my friends was just the transition of their stuff on the downloader to support Mac as my friends were all having issues as well.

Now to get on that Legend of Grimrock Dungeon Editor and remake the entirety of Doom 1 with it...
I updated to the latest version arriving some time today or late yesterday and began downloading a few games. I received some checksum error on all of them. I shut it down, temporarily turned off Avast network section and gave the downloader.exe admin rights. After that, no excessive CPU spikes (avast) and no error (admin rights).
The corrupted file downloads have started again. I bought Hotline Miami, was able to get it installed yesterday, and then downloaded the newest updated version tonight and can't get it to do anything as the "file integrity is corrupted" or something like that.

My Hotline Miami actually just stopped working outright. Tried downloading The Witcher and the same thing happened again.

*ugh*
