eyeball226: No... covering is just playing someone else's song. :P It can be live or a studio recording. I've arranged, played and recorded a bunch of covers just for my own amusement and just because I like the song.

I don't like live music much. Barely actually, another reason why I'm into trance (everything needs to feel smooth and arranged intelligently). :p
You could still do a trance cover of something. :P It doesn't have to be improvised, that was my point.
On a side note, my taste totally the opposite of yours (I dislike computer generated music and don't even like it when a studio recording sounds too 'arranged'). I went to see a folky hero of mine, Robin Williamson, and at one point in the gig he did a small medley of psychedelic-y Beatles songs (Tomorrow Never Knows, The Inner Light and I think there might have been another one I'm forgetting). It was amazing!
If music isn't live, then it's dead (ho ho ho).
