Delixe: The BBC have a terrible record with videogames, just search YouTube for Doctor Who: Top Trumps (GAG!), Dalek Attack and Destiny of the Doctors (which is only worth seeing for Anthony Ainley's last portrayal of The Master). Personally I am still holding a candle for Lego Doctor Who. If a Doctor Who game is a shooter in any way at all it would totally miss the point of Doctor Who.
A Torchwood shooter would work though.

Dear God, Destiny of Doctors was beyond terrible. I actually played that since it was on one of those pirate CDs a friend of mine had (Bits & Bytes of Twilight I think). It felt like a completely unfinished game - an alpha. It was beyond bad!
There would be lots of material to work from, but it seems like they would have to be more of a puzzle/adventure game as Dr. Who is the nonviolent type.

Aliasalpha: Well I answered a telltale games survey today and in the comments I told them to aggressively chase the Who licence since they're the only company around who I'd trust with my childhood (and adult) hero

I'm a fan of Doctor Who!

it's hard to get a screw if you're a fan of Doctor Who ;) And I'm not an Aussie! (Chaser rocks)
And they were right about that too...
Since the recent Mel Gibson film Edge of Darkness shows they're not above Americanizing some of their British products, maybe they'll do a "reboot" of Doctor Who with a big Hollywood budget. It will make fans in both countries very, very angry, but I'd imagine it will do fine at the box office.

What I'd like to see is an American version of In The Loop, set in DC. But I'm totally steering this thread off course.

Doctor Who will always remain with the BBC and always shown on free-to-air TV in the UK as it's funded and owned by the BBC. Because of the licence fee they can't ever charge for a BBC original production and they certainly can't sell it abroad other than to show the original show.
You are however getting Torchwood. It's being moved to the US along with previous Doctor Who producers Russel T Davies and Julie Gardner. I only hope Fox and BBC America don't screw it up. They last time they collaborated on a Who related product we got Doctor Who: The TV Movie.

The American version of Edge of Darkness was still done by BBC.
I'm not sure if this is refering to the same thing, but these games look like they have a very impressive pedigree. Adventure is the perfect genre for the Doctor.

There was one called, Dr. Who Destiny of the Doctors. I don't know if it was ever released. I'm always watching for a copy to show up on Ebay.

Wonder about the conditions attached to "Free", I'll look frorward to this especially given the involvement of Cecil but fully expect to see the words "Not available in your region" when I try to download them officially.

Destiny of the Doctors is really, really bad. Only really worth it for the Anthony Ainley scenes which were his last as The Master.

They have to be released free if the stories are to be considered canon which they seem to be. Essentially they are already paid for by the licence fee.
