mangamuscle: In my personal opinion gog would need to allow the government in china to review games so they can ban any game that they deem might be "harmful to young impressionable minds" and since there is a forum they will no doubt ask for the email addresses of anyone connecting from china at the very least to get download speeds back to normal.
I have no idea if gog would be willing or even if they are interested in expanding into the chinese market.
Speaking from experience, I have absolutely no confidence in the imbicles who run the censorship in China to make the right decision. Titles like the Witcher series will have absolutly no chance to clear the regulations.
Speaking from experience, I would rather hope GOG stay low key on this for a while and see if the blocking is temperory. It's much easier to fly under the rader as GOG has a relatively small following here. If things are brought into spotlight, I'm not sure what will happen
However, if GOG does want to expand more into the Chinese market, I believe it will be critically important to have a server physically located in the country to avoid accendental blocking like what's happening now
etb: When I was in China I was using EarthVPN to have a... better... Internet experience. You might want to consider it.
Thank you for the recommendations. I'm using a VPN service now called VPer, mostly for internet browsing and Youtube. It works well in most cases, but downloading a game proved too much for it to handle
Anyway, the downloader still doesn't work, but the direct link downloading worked this morning, so I guess the blocking is temperory and accendital. Thank you all for your reply and advice!
