Is this movie about the real Dredd from the comic books, or is it just another Hollywoodian excreta ?

Dreddrum.
Had to be said. Still I hear it is good, maybe I'll watch it in a year or two. See, I'm saving my every year or so trip to the movies for The Hobbit! :D

It's got robocop level violence. I am pleased.
About time there was a hard R on violence movie. Liked it a lot.

Saw this film a couple of weeks ago. Really quite enjoyed it, too. I wouldn't say it is a great film but it was satisfyingly enjoyable. I hear that they might be looking at making it into a trilogy.

It's like they want us to pirate it! I'm taking a couple of friends to see it when it comes out, they've never heard of 2000AD Comics or Judge Dredd so they're coming in fresh.
With any luck Dredd will generate enough interest in the 2000AD universe so we'll see more stories adapted, like Rogue Trooper.

Yes, Dredd. Following Judge Dredd.
Interesting that you are "older than most" and a fan of those types of movies and you never saw the Stallone movie!?

Goddamn this movie was fucking awesome, exactly what I was hoping it would be. When comparing it to the other comic films of this year, I got more enjoyment from Dredd than Dark Knight Rises (which I thought was okay) and Avengers (which I really liked).
Seriously, if you tire of glossy reach of Hollywood over films these days, this movie is for you. It bucks convention and focuses on executing the basics of an action movie extremely well, while maintaining a faithfulness to the license that allows said license to support the movie rather than carry it. The runtime of the movie is just over an hour and a half, and not a second of that time is wasted. The movie does a great job of grabbing you, holding you throughout and then ending right before you would start to tire of the theatrics. I hope the writer/director are able to do a second film, as they stated their desire to do so (based on sales figures thus far, not sure if that's going to happen, but I would love to see it). Even though they make some small changes to the environment from the comics (I didn't see any robots and Dredd's uniform/Lawmaster seem more realistic-looking), I thought the spirit and character of the strip was captured well (perhaps with a bit less humor, but there is some dark comedy within Dredd's lines).
Even without the Dredd license, this is a good, stylish action movie that leaves all the bullshit Hollywood trends behind. If you want to be entertained and you can handle some violence, then it comes highly recommended from me. If you are a 2000AD fan, then you should see it as a successful attempt to make up for the bullshit Stallone flick.
