Anyone know of some good DRM Free RPG Games?

How about the Avernum and Geneforge series by Jeff Vogel of Spiderweb Software? The graphics are dated but the gameplay is old school. No DRM that I know of. Just download the demo then purchase it and they e-mail you the registration number.

Wow, to own the entire Avernum series would be about $180.00. Each of their games are approximately $30.00 a pop, not sure I want to buy one and then feel like I would want the others.

As far as I know Eschalon Book 1 is DRM free (at least the version sold through the Basilisk Games web site, the Greenhouse version contains the standard Greenhouse serial/activation DRM).

DarrkPhoenix, I downloaded the demo and this is definitely a labor of love on the part of the creators. This looks to be a well made game and I think I will be picking it up in the next few days. Thanks for the info as I had never heard of this game.

Spirit Engine 2 is uber-awesome, if not really an RPG; still it has plot, dialogues, equipment and character advancement system.
Yeah, and it's gameplay is beyond awesome :).

I bought Spirit Engine 2 and Mark who created the game is a very nice guy and the game is DRM free.
I also bought Eschalon Book 1 as it too is a great game and also DRM free.
More people should support these efforts.
One last is Osmos, fun game and very attentive developers on the forums. Of course another DRM free game.

I'm interested about this one, how's the story actually ? The few reviews I was able to find said that it was an average-good game worth trying but nothing spectacular on any aspects (even for old RPGs fans).

I tried the demo too but it's very challenging if you start as a spellcaster (I love being healers or mages). You run out of mana very quickly because the mana costs are expensive for the starting spells. I suppose it makes sense, you've lost your memory, your skill and a level one mage shouldn't be able to nuke everything in his path, but potions aren't cheap and having to rest after every fifth kill is not only taxing but dangerous because of the random encounters. (Maybe I rolled wrong, I dunno)
I'll try a melee character to see if they encounter the same problem but, other than that, it's got pretty solid gameplay. The story seems cliche'd (how many protagonists have we met that with amnesia?) but the quests more than make up for it, not to mention the fact that it's an open-ended game and you can build your character to suit your preferred gameplay. This is taking into consideration I only have the demo but I'd definitely buy it (as soon as I figure out how to work my spell caster to my advantage).

OK, now I'm tempted; I'll buy the Eschalon after the payroll :).

I would list stardock in the grey area between DRM and DRM free
they appeared often in game circles a couple of years ago for releasing their galactic civilizations games DRM free ( only required a serial number, no CD, no internet, no other DRM )
now that they've grown as a publisher as well they are developing some kind of middle way solution that would be acceptable to developers while keeping games 'free' in some form ? not sure I completely get it.

GOO is a DRM, for sure it's the lightest and the most consumer friendly DRM I know but it remains what it is.

I have been enjoying it, and it is for sure not an easy game, but I think it is well made. My only complaints are not too great.
1. I wish I could save a game without having to hit the enter key to accept the save.
2. I wish you could click on the ground at a location and have your character walk there. I think I understand why not; as the game revolves around game turns, but I think it is still doable.
These are very minor points and it has not detracted from my overall enjoyment of an excellent game.
