I was just wondering why GOG.com decided not to sell DRM-free Software?

There are many software programs and apps for gaming that I would love to buy, but I'd prefer to buy them DRM-free from GOG.com. I would have thought gaming software was something worth selling.
Well GOG started out as "Good Old Games," and it's primarily a gamers' site. It's probably easier to do support for just computer games, than it is for both games and other various kinds of software.
Maybe we will soon see a new site named GOS (from Good Old Software) where we will find programs that were previously sold as retail, now all digital and DRM-free and in great discounts!
I'd definitely buy Microcal Origin if it were 75% off...................

I actually asked the makers of ArtRage (which is available on steam - and other than requiring the client to download is DRM free on there), had they considered approaching gog etc - they werent even (at the time) aware there was a DRM free digital distributer of... anything!

There's quite a lot of gaming software available (RPG Maker, or other gaming/animation software) that I would love to try, but I'm always turned off by the DRM in the software.

Unfortunately Steam has quite an extensive selection, but I have no intention of buying it from them.

I'm usually turned off by the price. When I saw the current price of 3ds Max recently I went full sponge.
Well free software has no DRM in it, but it also has no support and no company specifically to be attached to. But having an installer with common utilities wouldn't be bad. GIMP, Imdisk, Blender, to name a few. But then comes the hassle of repackaging and downloading from GoG's servers when you can easily just get them yourself. Hmmm... Actually i wouldn't be surprised if there's a decent distro already prepared with a bunch of free software just for people who want to do media/game building; There's several frameworks you can download and use at SourceForge, quite often they have Linux and Windows binaries, although sometimes it's just the source code...

For a free (GPL) software similar to 3ds Max look at Blender.

lol ... I admit they are a bit pricey ...
I feel like Grid Cartographer would be a good start. It is specifically for building maps for older games. Appropriate to the rest of the content on the site.
DRM-Free Software? Wouldn't be a bad idea. However as a gaming website I would really love to see Android games, Google Play is the equivalent of Steam to me and I don't buy anything from there, equally just as bad.

On the other hand, GamersGate already has this would love to see it on GOG :-)

I tried Blender several times over the years and I never got far with it. I recently tried 3ds Max' trial and after a few hours I had better results than with Bender in two weeks. Admittedly it may have had something to do with the quality of the tutorials but everyone I know who has worked with both simply hates Blender.

That statement would've stood stronger if they weren't selling movies by now. I'd find software a better match than that to be honest.
