Just a random musing. Some time ago i borrowed Planescape from a friend, just recently i had to return the disc to him. When it asked for disc to i was unable to oblige its request. I thought "Well no problem I'm just going to download a no-cd crack then".
What a fool i was! Cracking Planescape is harder then escaping alcatraz, it can be done but not without bending the law to a ridiculous degree (I.E. My friend owned the game and i borrowed it so its not a problem i download it then?) And even with a crack you still have to insert the disc from time to time. Thanks to my stubbornness i was able to find a solution. Copy the contents of the disc to my drive.
Why were the Bioware engine so hard to crack? And why not return to their formula?
Err whats to know? Copy the discs to a directory in the install folder, mod the INI to point to that folder instead of the CD drive, patch up, crack and play to your hearts content
Yeah, as Aliasalpha said, the Infinity Engine games are not hard to crack, it's just that they by default don't copy all the game data to the hard drive (because hard drives were much smaller back then, and the games didn't need the data any faster than optical drives could fetch it), and Planescape doesn't even include an option to do a complete install. Baldur's Gate did include that option ("custom" installation, not "full"), it couldn't actually detect that you had enough space on the drive but let you continue anyway in case you knew better.

of course it is a problem if you download it. it is called piracy. because your friend owns it doesnt mean you can just pirate it!
WTF?
Edit: WTF again. stop helping him!

Oh come on, there's no reasonable way to get your hands on Planescape in Europe - at least none that would not include temporarily moving to US or spending ridiculous ammounts of money.

I thought these guys shipped to Europe?

Well last time I've tried that, it didn't seem too happy about shipping it to Czech Republic
Tried buying it from amazon.co.uk, it must be at least half a year ago?

They happily shipped a copy of Baldur's Gate to Sweden, Planescape/Denmark should be no different.
I still have some extra copies...

you can buy the game.
and if you really cannot buy it anywhere then FIND YOUR OWN SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM.
don't ask about piracy. if you can find it yourself good for you just remember to buy goddamn game when it is released.
if you cannot make it work, you don't deserve to play it.
IIRC I bought a copy from cdon.com just a few months back as a gift for a friend. Although, I donät think they ship outside Scandinavia.

His piracy problem still exists. There are numerous copies available relatively cheaply on eBay right now. Some from Sweden, France, and other places.
