Looks good, although I have never played magic. I did however play Yu-Gi-Oh in its hey day. I assume if I enjoyed YGO that I would most likely enjoy this game?
Hmmm... Yu-Gi-Oh! is a lot more luck-oriented than Magic. Games of Magic, moreso than YGO, often revolve around deploying specific cards and strategic combinations thereof. In fact, there are many different kinds of decks you can make, each with its own element, that are specifically geared towards certain player strategies. You might be familiar with these:
Fire (red): Direct damage. Red decks are all about dealing as much hurt as possible in as little time as possible.
Water (blue): Manipulation. Blue decks screw around with the field, both players' cards, the ruleset, and the monsters.
Light (white): Blessings. White decks boost your monsters stats and/or you.
Dark (black): Curses. Black decks undermine your opponent's deck and/or your opponent.
Forest (green): Might. Green decks are all about producing powerful monsters to overwhelm the enemy.
If this all sounds interesting to you, then sure. You'll probably love Magic.

Man, I just know that this thing will suuuuck moneys out of my pocket and bank account, but I have to try it once, I guess. At least I hope that new bought cards will be given on a "I don't have them yet" basis.
I'd be interested if they included the Unglued expansion.
I'm fairly sure that this is the same thing as was released on the xbox360 market place. You don't buy extra decks or booster packs in this game you just get the cards they give you. You unlock new cards as you play but they just augment your preset decks. Its not a bad little game especially for people that never have played magic and want to see what its all about, vets may find it a little shallow though.

Does not compute. For once you buy a whole Magic game and not 0.005% of it?

Preset decks?
The old DOS game was way better than that.

Yea you get a deck for each colour and then unlocks for each as you use them. Its got a lite campaign and some might and magic puzzles which get you thinking of other ways to use some of the cards. It appears to have 2 expansions out for it as well now with 3 decks in each and plus some extra cards for all excisting decks etc. I've not played either expansion though.
Its also got some coop modes which I had alot of fun with.

Yea its much better unfortunalty it doesn't appear wizards of the coast have any plane to revive it. I've actually got the full game running perfectly on my xp computer, shandalar and all. It required some 3rd party programs and files but it runs great for the most part.

Finally got around to playing it and I must say it is a great game. The actual gameplay of magic gears it towards many play styles, rather than YGO's 2 or 3 each format.
Also when I went to claim my free card I also got two free decks, which is a bonus as now I can play the game IRL also. Is this the same for everyone or just NZ?

I know US people only got one free card.
If anyone wants to play, my Steam name is destricted.
I got this on xbox live, and its a pretty sweet game.
Even though I already got it on the xbox, and the first expansion on top, I might get it on steam, so I can play with a friend of mine as well.
As for the physical card game itself, I know my older brother got a random starter pack (a 2005 one I think?), from our grandmother, and that had two decks in it, so if I ever wanted to take up the game, I'm sure my older brother would let me have it. (He doesn't care for card games...).
I may even have to search for that older game, so I can simulate making decks before I set out and do it.
My favourite deck has to be Ears of the Elves.
What I loved about the expansion was that I played an ai in the campaign, that had a deck which had hardly any monsters in at all.
It was mostly focused on removing the cards from my deck, limiting my options for a counter when they play a strong monster.
(Fortunately I had saved up a monster destroy card to eliminate that monster, and the EOTE deck is great a building up a strong squad pretty quickly (abilities that boost stats, and get more cards in play))
I still play Yu-Gi-Oh!, and there is just as much strategy in it as Magic. Granted, Magic has been around longer and is way more challenging, I enjoy Yu-Gi-Oh! cause I get to punish my enemies (I run a Fairy deck, stop snickering, that can easily screw you over in 1 round.) without having to wait. Magic is also too easy if you make a deck with lockdowns...I like both, I played fire elements with green for backup. Great games, might pick this one up.
