We've just released the final version of our browser-based game - Filmillion www.filmillion.com We are often told it's fun to play. Also, it is (and it will be) absolutely free.

It's a machine that asks you questions about movies. You think about a movie and answer the questions, supplying more and more movie facts. Depending on your answers, the machine tries to guess the movie. The more you play, the smarter the machine gets.

Also, you can teach the machine to guess your favorite movies. Then it will have a higher chance to guess them with minimum questions/attempts.

Tried it, its fun, lot of error messages though..
First one was The Terminator and the machine guessed right.
Second one was The Legend of Bagger Vance and the machine gave an incorrect answer.

So...

1. It's a ripoff of Akinator, only restricted to movies rather than fictional characters of all kinds (movies, literature, games, comics, etc.).
2. You registered on this forum solely to advertise your own website.

At this point, most things are in some ways based on other things, so that shouldn't be really held against it.

1. You are perfectly right, we are not the first :) Although, Akinator wasn't the first either - check out http://www.20q.net/
I'd also mention that the algo for movies does have certain peculiarities and difficulties... You can check out the web for "open-source Akinator implementation" - many tried but there is no implementation available to "borrow". So, you have to build it from scratch. Which we did.
2. Bought a few games via GOG but this account - yes, to promote our game. Which is (and will be) absolutely free to play btw.

Thanks for playing! Could you tell if it was the browser that threw some error messages? Or, was it the game giving incorrect questions/guess attempts?

Also, if it fails to guess, you can teach it to guess your movie via the dialog box that shows up.

Browser was throwing some error messages. I'm using Firefox (24.0) if that is any help.

I love movies but I don't really get the point of this, I already know the movie I'm thinking of, why would I need a machine to guess it?

Anyway, good luck with it, free stuff always sells well :)

I've had quite some fun with Akinator so gave this a try.

1. The machine failed to guess any of the three films.
2. I got almost the exact same questions for each one of my chosen films and almost in the exact order, giving me the feeling that my answers had no effect on the course of questionng.
3. The order of the questions doesn't always make sense - best example, one question is if the main character is male and the very next one is if the film even has a main character; either answer to the first one renders the second one unnecessary and pointless.
4. The choices "probably yes" and "probably no" seem to through the machine off a lot, but also seem to be the best choice when the actual answer is along the lines "to some extend" and "not primarily".
5. I don't understand the meaning of the question about "thorough planning" - what does it refer to?
6. While it offers to continue with the questioning past Q30, it sort of chokes while trying to load Q31 (it actually looks like a browser error and I guess it's because there's no routine for past Q30) and goes to say that it's sorry it can't guess correctly.

Based on the above, it wasn't really fun to play - it feld quite repetitive and not very interactive, I guess because the machine needs more training?
Would explain how Akinator guessed The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (Bruno) correctly, though it asked me what seemed like a fair number of irrelevant funny questions.
