It's somewhat paradox and at the same time ironic, while Ubisoft reached 1. place of the 4 most fucked up evil gaming company(second place Activision, third place S-E, fourth place EA), I am still amazed that they just started to do good games again while cutting at their own cartoids (again).
The new "POP" was a total flop no matter that it has no DRM, even for me being an old PoP fan I felt face slapped because the low quality of the game.
Anyway, it seems like this game was just a filler for 2008, because suddenly the games are getting better, AC2 for instance, or Splinter Cell COnviction.
Now the first video about the new Prince of Persia, and I am amazed (aside the shitty face texture) that the game looks like a SoT-quality game again.
Here's the video:
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/first-look-prince-of/62777
My only 2 complaints are not about the game execution itself, but more about the game's treatment.
1. Prince of Persia is not only about Arabian Nights. Even the world Arabian Nights gives a comeplete wrong impression about Persian architecture, art and cutlure. Being an (Old)Iranist, I learned that most of 1001 nights(which earned through Western the false title Arabian Nights) was based on Persian and Indian folklore and being written down in Persian writing tradition.
Anyway, I'm saying that the game franchise should take more Persian elements than Arab ones, and I am not meaning the artistic direction only.
Christ, even the Prince's brother's name is Malik. Malik is Arabian, not Persian. No Persian royal would've given their successors Arabian names, it's like giving calling an English King/Prince the name "Heinz" or a Greek philosoph the name "Bob".
If they give the game so much Arab elements, they should rather call it "Prince of Arabia" and stop giving the Persian world a wrong picture. Especially if Iran is having it'S national movements and tend to get really Anti-Arabian.
2. I find it awkward that they used the armor from Warrior Within and yet they don't say a word about on the trailer...
It's a shame they're trying to get away from Warrior Within to get a more casual approach.
I don't know if it was because of the blood WW had but, I'm sure it wasn't just that.
The story, the environment, the puzzles... Everything about that game was perfect on it's own. It was even closer to the original POP-trilogy than the 2008, meaning SotF.
And because of this sudden withdrawn from WW, the finale Two Thrones became really screwed up. If they had take the original approach called "KIndred Blades" (videos are available at youtube ;) , the finale would've been much more appreciated and not being so rushed.
But well, the game still looks good.

It's a shame that after SC: Conviction suffers the same fate as AC2 even the biggest Ubisoft fanboy will have given up buying their games.

Yep, and believe me, I am still a really big fan Prince of Persia games(I am even in the credits of Two Thrones.) and I won't buy the game, no matter which console.

I find it's less a dev diary and more a 'this is why our game is awesome even though it's not' thing. :P
Those Ubisoft morons, they'll ruin my preferred games series. I'll take it when crackers will have, well, cracked it for good.
Death to the Ubisoft assholes....
DRM is evil.
I made a retroperspective of the PoP-franchise about Forgotten Sands here, DRM included:

Not entirely sure if it's appropriate to post here -- perhaps it warrants a new thread -- but THIS I consider a developer's diary.
It's the story on how the very first Prince of Persia (by Jordan Mechner) came to be, wrapped in a highly inspirational coming-of-age-like story.
I recommend reading it from beginning to end. Even when you're not an avid gamer.
I'm off topic, but since you seem to know a bunch about persian culture, do you know any good instrumental (or even orchestral) persian musics ?

Oh, I know some. Persian Music is cathegorized under Sufi-chants, love songs and Persian instruments mixed with western pop/classic.
I am sure Azam Ali could be something to consider:

She is a amazing Persian singer whose music is based mostly on Persian vocals and insturments.

There is also the album called "Made In Persia" I found it quite good.
There's also a nice CD " Zarathustra " by Sina Vodjani. It's really light and harmonical music with using classic Persian instruments.
I also recommend you looking for "Night Silence Desert", "Saz-Eno" and "Faryad" on Amazon.
If your intestest goes over my knowlegde, you can always look at that page, Iranian artist and Persian related music are supported there:

Richard Strauß made a track called "Persian Marsh", nice to hear aswell.
And well, the lovesongs are quite nice 8D

By the way, my post wasn't meant as a criticism. I just spotted an opportunity to link to his old journals. :)
Thx for the links, I'll check these out later.

Pretty good soundtracks indeed. Also "oriental spirit" from Outcast.

Outcast...I hope it will be GoG soon 8D
Like Trantrix I loved the Prince of Persia games, and I even liked the 2008 game. I really want Forgotten Sands but like many others, the DRM is kind of a turn off.
Why does Ubi have to so many awesome games marred by their DRM? :(
I also really want AC2.
At least there's AC1...
