I've a rather broad question, are game consoles still relevant, most console games seem top be released on PC.

It doesn't matter if most games are released on PC, games sell better on consoles (AAA at least) so they'll continue to make games for them since they're the biggest market (well, ignoring cellphones). Besides, there are still exclusive games on the consoles that won't be released on the pc...
Personally I stopped caring about consoles after the PS2.

pretty much this
as well as the convinience for the developers to just have to contend with one ( or two if you want to be picky ) sets of specificatiosn that will remain static for at least 6 years

and the convinience of the consumer who just wants to lounge on the couch and play the latest with out worrying about if his system is up to it
his newest game willw ork on his launch date 5 year old machine
and a 7 year old game will run just fine oan brand new console as well
Yes, cause some of us can't afford fancy computers that can play AAAs, so we use our consoles. Plus, I'd rather play platformers on a console.

If I didn't have a console I'd never played Skyrim, AC, ME, etc, etc, etc. And that would make me sad.

racing games and action games and beat em ups are also controller material for me

Of course they are still relevant. Gaming with a controller from the comfort of your couch is a different experience from gaming on a PC. It's not inherently better, just different.

Also, while most games may indeed be ported to PC, many PC ports of games originally developed for consoles are less than stellar.
Consoles are very relevant if you are Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo.
I game on PC, but...

This. Right here. Seems to me that most games are developed for consoles or with consoles in mind, so are they relevant? Probably moreso than PCs for gaming.

Why is using a controller on a PC such a foreign concept though? It's loads more common than using mouse / keyboard on a console which is why PC wins the control scheme war!
XBox 360 controllers cost about a 3rd of a new AAA game and are plug and play on PC no fuss, no muss

dont ask me i have been usinga xbox 360 controller for most of my pc games for 5 years now
and otherwise i hook it up to my 360
I never really understood why people would buy consoles...
They are initially cheaper, yes, but the games cost so much compared to discounted titles for a computer. And for 400 bucks you can buy a decent gaming computer too, though of course you won't be able to play the newest AAA-titles (but who wants to do that anyway these days, with gigantic first-day-patches, ridiculous bugs, lots and lots of Downloadable Content and such).
A PC also provides way more possibilities... although that's less and less important since people tend to use their phones for everything nowadays.

The only real argument for me is the ease of plug-and-play, you don't have to worry about anything and just play.

Everything else is... unimportant. Hell, you can even use a controller to play games on your PC, so what?

That being said, a computer is the only choice for me because of quite complex titles, which cannot be played with a controller, most of all strategy games.
Consoles are relevant when they are diverse. But that idea has died with Wii, Xbox 360 and PS4. This current batch are just glorified Bluray players with absolutely no personality or characteristics at all.
