I might also suggest Dear Esther, but you should be aware as to what sort of game it is. It's a bit difficult to explain though, but I'll try anyway. Basically the player has a bizarrely passive role, one of an observer rather than an active participant, so it's a bit like Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy in that respect; you can move around and that's about it. The story is revealed through ambiguous monologue, leaving it up to the player to figure out what it was all about, which kind of reminded me of Limbo (another game I enjoyed hugely). There are lots of vague references to the Bible, kanji symbols and what have you. The visuals are gorgeous. To me it seems like the sort of game a poetry-liking person would appreciate.

Mind you, the game takes about an hour or two to complete. This might be a problem to people who judge a game by how many hours of their life it wastes and/or how many dollars each hour costs. Since it's a present, neither should be a problem. Who knows, a non-gamer might even appreciate the shortness of it.

It also has one of the coolest female characters in a game, one that really grows on you, and that she perhaps might identify with in one way or another. I can say for sure that April Ryan owns most of the stupid, annoying and 2d female characters that are usually featured in romance novels. The story and the (as mentioned) abundance of dialogue make it perfect for people who enjoy stories/books.

A game that is universally loved (even adored) by non-gamers is Machinarium. It's cute, charming, short, you can sell it as a cartoon for all ages that develops the brain/iq, and it has romance too :) And a little bit of (lighthearted) drama.

It's a bit of a stretch, but perhaps with your help - Planescape Torment?

Both games are as a rule adored by girls (there are girls who like and play only jrpgs and no other games, and always consider ffs to be their favs), and ff10 will make her cry like a baby. Which, if I am to judge by korean drama fans, is something that a lot of girls who like romances and drama are totally into.

Oh, if only I could find a girl who likes to dress up like Jeanette and play VTMB... :-)
