As the GMA 950/900 has no hardware T&L, & has to use the cpu for software T&L, this could be part of the problem.
A Core 2 Duo might be good enough for software T&L in old games like Sacrifice, but a Atom cpu is probably not fast enuff.
I did not take that into account in my initial post earlier :(.
It's probably also abit of trial & error even for old 3D games as Intel graphic drivers ain't as compatible as those from Nvidia & ATI in general.

Jagged Alliance 2 Gold
Unfortunately I'm not sure how long you are allowed to download it for. It's probably quite high up on the GOG wish list though.

Anyone know how Warcraft 3 would run on the MSI Wind? I've been thinking of getting either that or Samsung's new netbook-and Warcraft 3 would really be the maximum thing i'd ever want to play on them. The Wind has got that UMA 950 chipset shared with the system memory, but the RAM can be upgraded to 2 GB, and the CPU can be overclocked to 1.9 GHz with the push of a button. I guess if it can't run WC3 I might as well pay 200 dollars more for a normal laptop.

I couldn't say for sure, this might have just been a rumor or hearsay but I've seen videos of people playing wow on an iphone. I would imagine a laptop would be able to run it.
I just got myself a Asus EEE 1000H.
I've Been playing Doom2 with Zdoom engine and Clive Barker's Undying so far with no problems at all.
I'll update with more games later.

I have not checked the specs on a Wind, but I can run WC3 at low detail on my Dell Mini 9 without any problem.

Wow, really? Huh....I wonder what the thing could do at its full 1.9 ghz then? Laptop Mag played City of Heroes at around 10 FPS-They even got cocky and tried to install CoD4, but drivers weren't compatible at the time. Anyone got a Wind to try crazy stuff on?
I was pretty happy I got Unreal Tournament running on my laptop, even if it does need to be at 640x480@16bpp in software mode to make it playable.
My laptop has a 1Ghz CPU, 384MB of RAM and an ATi Rage Mobile M1 with 8MB of VRAM.
GoG have a real opportunity here to make a killing selling games to netbook owners.
No DRM
No disk
Just a single .exe
If you could certify and label the GoG games that meet the following criteria:
> runs fine on Intel Diamondville platform (Atom + 945G)
> runs fine on a 1024 x 600 screen (even if using 800 x 600 as actual game resolution)
then GoG would make a fortune selling cheap easily installable games to netbook owners.

this is one of the major reasons i have signed up to gog and got some games.
- for my Samsung NC10 netbook -
- older games are more likely to run on them because the system requirements were so much lower back then.
- no disk drive in a netbook makes digital downloads of software imperative (unless you want networking hassles or lots of iso creation and usb transfer etc)
i too would like something in place (maybe even just a forum sticky in general discussion) that lists which games work on netbooks and which dont (i have to hazard guesses right now such as Flatout 2 not working because its too demanding)
Haha, "Wind."
All childish jokes aside, yes, Warcraft 3 runs on a laptop. Blizzards tries hard to make their games very scalable, and it looks OK on a MSI Wind. GOG has some good old game (duh) you can run. Fallout, UT GOTY and other UT games run well on a Wind. In fact, I was reading the November issue of PC Gamer (the US version) and if you haven't read it, they have a whole section on notebook gaming. WC3, Peggle, Quake 3 are all nice little games to play on a netbook. OC Gamer tested it on an EeePC, but they're both using Atom architecture anyway, so I think there's not much of a difference anyway.
this is for samsung nc10 (but eee pc 1000h,msi wind, acer aspire one etc. are the same)
-giants citizen kabuto works fine. supports 1024x600 ingame.
-stonekeep runs perfectly (sound sound crackling and mild lag - but i attribute that to dosbox and not the machine) unsure about resolution in game. i suspect 640x480
-gothic runs fine - supports 1024x600 ingame.
- sacrifice runs fine. maximum resolution appears to be 800x600 which is slightly blurry on a 1024x600 panel. noticed some slight flickering of the lighting on terrain when turning left and right. possibly driver related but is mild and doesnt affect the gameplay.
game will crash if you turn on bump mapping in the game options.
will update when i have played and purchased more.

operation flashpoint runs at a playable ~20 fps with settings at 1024x576, 16bit, and low video options.
Descent 3 - works ok @ 800x600 resolution, default detail settings (although you can raise them even further)
the game has an annoying quirk that it leaves a file/program called MAIN.EXE running after you have quit the game. this results in the game not working again until you have ended that process in the task manager.
directx mode results in graphical corruption for the ingame menus and mouse pointer.
opengl mode results in quite a bit of gradual texture corruption in the game. (something id normally attribute to an overheating gpu on other machines - but descent 3 is nowhere near as demanding as morrowind and that game runs flawlessly)
so, i would purchase this game with some reservations if you solely are going to use it on a netbook. it will work, it just might or might not have some flaws big and small.
update - running the game using direct3d fixes the texture corruption whilst playing but the fonts and mouse cursors are corrupt instead. problematic game on netbooks it seems.
freespace 2 - works very well. the games menus default to 1024x768, with scrolling on netbooks, mode and cannot be changed by default. the actual ingame flight engine can be set to 800x600 from the launcher menu in the games directory. (the launcher menu wont appear if you just use the desktop/start menu shortcut)
the game can be modified to allow all sorts of new effects and better resolution support. check out http://www.fsoinstaller.com for more info as a start.
update - using the aforementioned fsoinstaller i can now set the game resolution to native 1024x600 and it works for ingame engine and the game menus etc. superb.
Sacred Gold - Works using 3rd party tools and some fiddling around...
Heres how..
-Download the 1.3.7 version of Astray
http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=18260&p=1
-Follow the instructions for using it and make sure you switch off the services that it tells you to once youre happy with how it works. (certainly turn off the igfxtray program in task manager to start with.)
-You will need to alter the Astray.ini file to add the 1024x600 resolution because it does not come with that resolution as standard.
i also advise turning off downscaling in the ini file, or in the astray programs options menu.
- Go into the properties of Sacred.exe and set the compatibility to windows 98/me. disable visual themes.
- run astray if you havent already done so, quick switch to 1024x768 resolution.
- run sacred. the game will run, the screen will require scrolling to see everything.
bad things to note -
- with downscaling on you will be able to see all the screen but your performance will nose dive into the center of the earth and the game will be unplayable.
-the audio is terrible. theres a real problem with the sound on my netbook which uses realtek audio. the sound is choppy and repeats constantly as if its lagging behind everything else.

"Sacred Gold doesn't work at all"
Damn :(
What netbook did you try that on?
