PMIK: In fallout ( number 2 I think) you can shovel brahmin crap and then get a trait where you are forever known as a Sh** shoveler.

Very amusing
We prefer the term Poopsmith.

Well, you can also be a boxer and a porn star :P
No More Heroes had side mission jobs IIRC, and they were often arcadey in playstyle.
Game of life.
The Shit Scrolls - Real Life requires you having in-game jobs to make money. But half way through the game though the game, the economy turns to shit. So better upgrade your burger flipping skills and your begging skills just in case. And in this game, you have to give up 95% of the money you make to pay rent or risk becoming a 2nd class citizen and getting chased off by guards.

Alter Ego required you to get a job, if I remember correctly, as did Real Lives 2010.
ummm... Harvest Moon, Rune Factory, classic Atelier, Opoona, Recettear...

Elona has a pianist class, and there's jobs on the quest board involving giving concert performances. I you can also buy land to run farms or museums.

djdarko: Thanks for the replies everyone, I'm mostly looking for Action/RPG type games, where the job is a side mission etc. Not something like Simulation type games where the whole game is about making money.

Any further suggestions are welcome.
Both Knights of the Old Republic games let you compete in racing tournaments to earn money on the side. Granted, the racing was horribly buggy in KotOR2, but it was there.

Yea, that's pretty much why I love fallout 2 so much. You can also be a made man, sex toy, slave trader and what not. There is also this game on gog where you play a Japanese princess...lol....southpark comes to mind.

Hmm.. There is that fantastic "Thousand Arms", a PsOne game blending dating sim, RPG and what you are asking, an in-game job.

It follows the story of the son of a blacksmith, which goal is to become the successor and master of his work, with the particularity of being heir of a family of lustful dudes in need of damsels as muses, to get the job done. All through the game you don't make money with your job, but you pay to exercice it at elemental forges to improve it through your swords. Still, an in-game job as the main focus.

I dont and won't condone any pyracy, but I have the game in its original CD case (2 discs) and often play the ISO through pc emulator, or an eboot for my PSP and.. What a game!!

Welcome, it is one of those hidden gems, I guess. A few more details though to name the wrong, the map is done in a ugly 3D, the combats are in 2D turn based and a real fresh take on the genre but many have complaints, and Sodina is the best maiden!! :)

Hmm I can only think of games where the job is the whole game, like the aforementioned Paperboy:
Crazy Taxi, Super Trolley, and technically your job is Team Coach (or assistant Team Coach at the start of Story Mode) in Blood Bowl!

Oh Park Patrol where you're a Park Warden from the C64 days too!

I'm interested in digging back into those PS1 and PS2 Atlus games, strangely I never owned a single PS1 Atlus game, and I never owned a PS2 at all.

I don't think anyone mentioned Space Quest IV, where you get a job at the space mall. That was a good one.

Jones in the Fast Lane is one that came to mind that (as far as I can tell from skimming the thread) wasn't mentioned yet. In-game jobs (and managing to pay the rent and not starve, while improving your education so you can get better jobs later on and so on) are pretty much the focal point of the game. Although, IIRC "work" in each case consists of clicking a WORK button, which instantly earns you some cash and passes some time. So, not exactly in-depth as far as the in-game jobs go. :)
