Hey, I liked Andromeda. Better than I liked Deep Space 9 or Enterprise, at any rate.
In any event, this show seems like a 'fail' to me. It just strikes me as a show where Data (or something strikingly Data-like) is the star. Now, I liked Data in Star Trek: TNG, but I don't think he can carry his own series. A little bit of an amnesiac Pinocchio goes a long way. Maybe I am reading to much into it, but that is the first impression I got from their description.
Andromeda was awesome. To start with, then it turned into the kevin sorbo saves the universe hour and whilst it still had some good stuff and still had lexa doig, I felt the show really devolved over the 5 series

Really? I don't know but IMO it had some of the worst acting I'd seen since Amazon - well maybe not as bad as Amazon, but still, the characters had some terrible acting, some even worse than Sobo lol
Well it wouldn't need to fail but haven't we had enough human-like androids over the years since the 70's? It's old news now:
- Data of course
- several occurrences of androids in Outer Limits
- Battlestar Galactica
- quite a few movies including Blade Runner (in fact, I doubt it could ever even remotely match the quality of Blade Runner where androids seek to discover why they exist as well)
etc.
It's more a question of "been there, done that" than anything else that might make it fail.

Nah, set them on limp, or maybe bit of a cough :-D
Speak for yourself. I fucking LOVED Earth: Final Conflict, and Andromeda is a LOT better than I remember it.
This is the definition of WTF.

There was still some great stuff in both shows but in the later series I mostly found myself saying "Why aren't ALL the episodes this damned good?"
Yeah, I see your point Aliasalpha, about the start of the Andromeda series being much better than the end. I DID lose interest towards the end. By the time they got stranded on that planet and Lexa Doig semi-left and was semi-replaced by the blond girl, I had pretty much stopped watching entirely (as you can probably tell by my lack of details about it, heh)
It all depends on who produces it. Not all Gene's ideas were good enough for him which is why they stayed undeveloped while he was alive. Earth: FC, Andromeda and now Questor are only seeing the light of day because Majel Barret has been rifling through his things again.
Well majel has been dead for a year, its their son Rod doing this

Really? I didn't know that. Got so used to seeing her I guess. If Questor wasn't good enough for her to plunder then worry.
Yeah, Majel "I wanted better roles, so I married the Boss" Barret-Roddenberry produced Andromeda. I always felt it to be a dumbed down, kiddies lite version of Next Generation. Just right for a very early evening TV slot competing against that very dull news show on other channels...
One show I really wanted to see developed was Roddenberry's "Planet Earth" with John Saxon  as Dylan Hunt (No, not THAT Dylan Hunt, but a better one!).
AFAIK, they only got the pilot out, but it was pretty good, from what I remember.
