So...we know GOG doesn't stand for anything anymore, but I do believe I've found its namesake: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gog_(film)

(So basically that little robot is now the mastermind behind all of these wonderful DRM-free games.)

Please fix the link. You forgot to add the closing parenthesis.
Maybe they should change it to G(O)G.
Not this, again, please... -_-

GOG works just fine, it doesn't have to be an acronym for anything.

I like the robot, though. :-P

[EDIT] I wonder if Steam users spend most of their time ranting that it should change names because it's no longer "Specifically Tailored Entertainment Acclaimed Marketplace" or whatever... GOG still has, keeps releasing and will most certainly remain releasing your cherished good OLD games. Jeez...

I think the OP was just joking around, and I thought it was funny, personally, but I'm afraid this will be another bait thread to all the whiners who think GOG should focus only on classics and keeping their closed community closed -- and closed-minded -- forever.

Quoting from a review by some IMDB user: The names of the two robots that are controlled by.....,well you should see the movie for that, Gog and Magog, comes from the Bible, Rev.20:8. They are the two nations to be led by Satan in the final battle at Armageddon against the kingdom of God

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gog_and_Magog

I'm not sure how to interpret that. Is GOG just a tool for evil? Who's Satan? And God? Since GOG says no to DRM, is DRM God? Maybe it is, not for being the good guy but for being everywhere. And we are using GOG, we would be in that Satan team, are we little demons? And who leads all this? Is the french monk Satan? Is TET being trained and not just entertained when he plays Dungeon Keeper? Are they writing in blue instead of red just as a disguise? And what about that sister place named MAGOG? Are they selling DRM-free Lucas Arts games?
Maybe they should change it to The GOG Of The Walk.

Fixed...I'm not sure how that even happened...it seems that the forum software automatically assumes a URL ending in ) does not actually include the closing parenthesis, and puts it outside of the [ /url ] block.

Yes I'm entirely joking around :) I just noticed when I googled GOG (on accident, btw, because this isn't my normal computer and it didn't auto add ".com" like I'm used to), that there was a movie with the same name, and thought I could give someone else a laugh :)

If I'm reading the small print at the top of the movie poster correctly, this talks about a "frankenstein of steel". Dig it as a subtitle for GOG, neat ring to it :P
