if you'd have read the release post, or watched the conference you'd know, it's a no go for now due to licensing issues.

EA nominally owns the trademark to the name, but the developer retained the development rights. The developer has since gone bust and an insurance company owns the development rights as of this point.

Just out of curiosity, I don't know about System Shock, but having that Syndicate was developed by Bullfrog, why is that they can release other BF titles like Magic Carpet but not this one?

Could be anything from a designer still holding the rights to part of the game, or even an issue with music (most common problem).

Without doing a lot of research or GOG flat out telling us, we may never know.

For those that own System Shock 2 on CD already, it is relatively easy to set it up to play on modern systems. There's an installer called SS2tool, made by Kolya, here. Some people have issues with the cutscene videos playing, but there are helpful posts for dealing with that on their website as well.

I just installed and played through the game a few months back in Windows 7. Good times, I love playing this game. I just wish networking to other people was simpler =P Multiplayer SS2 owns.

I can highly recommend this installer. I'm finally playing through SS2 for my first time thanks to it.
