Saw mention of a four year anniversary celebration happening here at GOG. I'm surprised that they sent out a press release about it but it doesn't seem to have been mentioned here on the site. Partial quote of the news release:
On Thursday, October 11, one week before the grand finale, an unheard-of deal with one of the finest indie developers of video-gaming magic will be announced, and finally, on the 18th of October, GOG.com will go public with the biggest change to the service since launching from beta--and will have tons of other great news, releases, and announcements as well.
Original news item was here at GamingNexus. I'm curious to see what happens over the next few weeks!
Holy shit, now you got my all hyped up. Can't wait to see what it is.
Shit just got real.
Bringing the service to a "new frontier" must be Mac or mobile? (as much as I'd love it to be Linux)

Any guesses about the deal with "one of the finest indie developers"? I suppose Double Fine is one possibility (Psychonauts came on the service when DoubleFine had not yet got the rights back). They could at least bring Costume Quest, Stacking and Iron Brigade immediately and promise Double Fine Adventure and The Cave for the future. I'm not sure of another "indie" game studio with a number of titles worth crowing about, but maybe I'm being unimaginative?

OMG, we're going to get user profiles!

Double Fine sounds like a very solid guess. I would have preferred a big studio, but yeah, why not.
Great news...but

another example of this sort of stuff not actually appearing on the actual site!!! Grrr

I dont have time to scour countless other sites for news about the sites I am interested in - how does it not make sense to put this stuiff on the GOG site?!

*sigh*
Finest indie developer, huh? A major non-indie studio would be cooler, but if they won't sign up with GOG, complaining about it doesn't do much good. I agree, it almost has to be Double Fine.

edit: Finest, Double Fine. Very clever, guys.

edit the second: You know, I love Psychonauts but have never played any of Double Fine's games; I've often thought of getting them from Steam. If you have signed them, making vague announcements on websites most of us don't read weeks ahead of time is a pretty bad way to handle it; customers who'd buy from GOG given the option, will continue to buy from Steam and other stores in the meanwhile, and you'll have only yourself to blame.

Yeah, that's a rather annoying trend. See also: the promised announcement about the partnership with Obsidian on Project Eternity.

On the topic of major publishers, which ones are left?

I can think of 2K, Microsoft, SEGA and LA. Plus some pretty big ones like Zenimax and Paradox. Other 'smaller' ones like NovaLogic.

Maybe the biggest change since coming out of beta will be a proper news feed?
Well TET said he'd post about it first thing this morning. Perhaps he meant American time.
Obsidian probably slipped out of GOG's bed in the morning... or vice versa. Not sure which one wanted to get into the others panties as badly.

Anyway, I'm sure we'll hear about it when the planets align and the important paper signing ritual can take place.
